How do you use cryptocurrencies?

in cryptocurrency •  7 years ago

Hello everyone, I'm Santiago from Tierra del Fuego, Argentina.
I'm new here and I'm still learning a lot about cryptocurrencies. I was introduced to Bitcoins in 2012 but unfortunately I didn't get involved until now.
I know that a lot of people use cryptocurrencies as a store of value and as a investment, to send and receive money across countries among other uses. But I was wondering how you use cryptocurrencies for everyday transactions. Do you use them for groceries or for online shopping? And finally, do you think cryptocurrencies improved your life in any way?

You can use bitcoin for shopping. Here is a list of places: http://spendbitcoins.com/places/

The eco-system is still very young. And only a handful of countries, like Japan and Australia, have legalized bitcoin as legal tender. Until that day comes, and until they make it simpler to use for ordinary people, it will be some time before it is adopted in a massive way. Think Internet back in 1991.

TenX is looking to bridge the gap between cryptos and traditional banking. https://www.tenx.tech/

Cryptocoins are also used to buy illegal stuff on the Darknet (think Tor) and for money laundering (think China). Oh and don't forget hackers demanding ransom (think HBO/Game of Thrones). Governments are going to be regulating this market soon enough. Until then, it's the wild wild west.

Thanks for the links. Do you think that the trend of buying and holding bitcoins (as an investement rather than using it as currency) is one of the reasons that is not massively adopted yet?

I buy and hold. Crypto currencies are too valuable for daily purchases. I use junk Fiat currencies to buy daily goods

I do the same right now but I wonder if some people (besides those who buy and sell illegal goods) have been positively affected by crypto currencies. I wonder what would have happened if Bitcoin existed back in 2001 in my country when bank accounts were frozen, different provinces started issuing bonds which were almost worthless and people resorted to bartering.

I heard about that. I followed your country back then. What you experienced will be coming to the United States eventually. I am just glad crypto currencies are here now!

Why do you think that can happen in the US? I know every currency eventually goes back to zero and the American economy is not what it used to be but I can't imagine a massive crisis like that one.

Most people can not imagine it. However the mathematics shows it is a 100% certainty.
