It Happened Again!

Oops there it's been again. Some downtime on the steem blockchain due to a bug in the code. That's at least the information I got.

That's not what I want to point out though but the fast reaction of stinc and all the top witnesses. They got on the case immediately and could get the chain back online the same day.

This performance definitely reassures me in the competence of all devs involved once again. It shows their dedication and that steem got a solid foundation for a bright future.

Thank you to all who've been involved fixing the mistake and bring us back to normal!

Well, I'm actually not that happy with the resolution time, I really think it's needed to look deeply at what went wrong and how to avoid that again.

  • "The same day" is just not good enough, there were some 7-8 hours of downtime, that's quite unheard of. When did Facebook go down for 7-8 hours previous time? Steem being a blockchain, it's supposed to be more robust than Facebook.
  • Steem has many different user interfaces, but as far as I know, all of them went completely down due to the blockchain problems. I get that it's impossible to vote and post when the blockchain isn't running, but it should still be possible to read old content from the blockchain. It shouldn't be a big problem to leave a node running to serve requests, but without synchronizing the blockchain.
  • There were very little information to be found while the blockchain was down. It shouldn't be that difficult putting out some information on the major sites like steemit.com?
