Taking recommendations for the best anonymous cryptocurrency

in cryptocurrency •  7 years ago

Which cryptocoin would YOU recommend for the following attributes:

  • Anonymity - Bitcoin (BTC) is a semi-anonymous currency. If the user has at any time attached his true identity to a purchase of BTC, it is theoretically possible to track transactions to that user...if a little difficult to do so. This is one reason that governments and the banking industry have been so keen on making the entry purchase of BTC so hard without identification. There are justifiable reasons to do so (counter terror financing, anti-money laundering, preventing cybercrime), and yet the misuse of secrecy and targeting of the citizen by other methods by governments, the United States government included, makes the attraction of anonymity to the private person. On a personal note; it sticks in my craw to have people poking about in my business unless I share it myself. Meiklejohn et al make this central point:

Bitcoin has the unintuitive property that while the ownership of money is implicitly anonymous, its flow is globally visible

  • Stability in development - Although users may have some wariness about BTC's next hardfork, the mass of holders is not that worried about it considering the latest value surge. Newer coins don't have the market history of bitcoin to indicate stability of development ( developers may drop a coin which has seen no indication of future value). Newer coins may instead have a development team with a history of success and integrity, however. One reason that I quit mining GRC was a change in the system that I was never able to adapt to. Please note that this attribute, "Stability in development", is not the same as "stability in value"; crytpo is damn near a market value consideration wholly, with little intrinsic value in any coin. Witt et al make the point that cryptocurrencies are...

Not backed by anything tangible or by law

  • Ease of use- How long does a transaction take to occur? Can the market be accessed at any given time? Is there enough demand for the coin?

  • Ease of acquisition- Do you need an ID to purchase the coin? Which exchanges sell it; do these exchanges require ID to use?

  • Liquidity- How do you cash out? Currently, the best options I have seen (not used) are in exchanging the coin to BTC and then to sell your BTC for cash. Is there a merchant system such as Bitpay that can accept the coin as it is?

  • Decentralization- Is the coin subject to a central control point? Are there enough whales, so to speak, that can manipulate the coin via pump and dump or control of supply?

What methods do YOU use to keep your own transactions anonymous? Discuss.

Conclusion - It is east to see that my main focus is in anonymity, with ease of use and liquidity as secondary concerns. I am not really looking for discussion on mining this coin, investment long term, or other such concerns. Thank you for your participation!

Keep in mind that even BTC is not out of the woods yet, as banks and governments seek to regulate every aspect of it's use, fueled by the insanity of the Left. You think I'm joking on this last point?

Golumbia argues that a far-right philosophy can be found not only among the digital currency’s advocates, but within the software itself.
(McNeill, 2016)

You can take your money out of the system, but never forget the nanny-staters and the rent-seekers will never quit seeking to control that money...and YOUR use of it!

I never Invested anything In BTC, Never trusted it much, don't know why. I don't know much about anonymity but I think that Dash, Monero are far more secure than BTC. Though I have invested more in ETH.

I quasi invested in BTC...I was holding some money in BTC after selling my WOW account. I don't think there is a stable platform for retaining value in digital currency at this time.

You just have to cash out, or hope the market doesn't tank ;>

OTOH, there is always the possibility of a value surge, too.

In crypto, what I invest, i keep holding most of it, Even Invested a little bit More. Either I will loose all my money, Or will come Out as A millionaire in a few years. Never believed in small profits.

1000x gains or nothing! LOL

FULL STEEM AHEAD!

lol

go for the brass ring!

Aiming for that.

Just stick with Steem! It works for all of the above. Currently all coins must go through BTC to cash out. That being said, in my @steemshop account I am already seeing people offering cash for Steem and visa-versa, therefore by-passing the need for BTC.

yes - I should have mentioned @anonsteem for the anonymity benefits of Steem

TOR: steemlohs6air4h2.onion

Steem has a little bit of a liquidity problem if the user invests in Steem Power, but as a currency can certainly fill most of these requirements.

Do you have a post that explains the @steemshop account in basic terms to me (and readers) that you'd care to share?

Thanks for the reply, and pointing out what was right in front of my eyes LOL

Absolutely. I used anonsteem to buy all my steemshop accounts.

Steemshop is still in development but does now have a basic structure.

XVG (or verge) is the most ANON of all the coins out there and doing things other anon coins aren't even close to do doing. They already have a mobile Android wallet out that routes all traffic through TOR for complete anonymity - and are currently working on an i2p version as well.

thank you; I'll check into verge.

-OR- you could write up a post, link it here, and I'll mostly likely upvote it ;>

Monero is great. Really solid tech that just gets better with each passing month, open source, great Devs, and under-valued. Lack of light wallet, but soon to change.

Is Monero what used to be DASH? sounds familiar

Monero is a different project. It is generally accepted to be the most anonymous of the anon coins, and completely obscures a user's identity. It is used by one of the largest darknet sites - AlphaBAy - and so is trusted by those who really care about keeping their identities well-hidden!

You can read more about the coin on its Wikipedia: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Monero_(cryptocurrency)

Other anon coins are Z-Cash, Dash, Pivx
