Content & Curation

I really like content curation reward sites. They inspire some normally quiet and brilliant people to express themselves where they otherwise wouldn’t. Let’s start with my 2 favorite, Steemit.com & LBRY(Odysee.com)

  • Steemit. If you’re reading this you almost certainly know what Steemit is. It’s probably the most well-known blockchain run social media platform. Content creators/curators, posters and commentators all earn STEEM tokens. Many exchanges accept STEEM so it can be exchanged for Bitcoin, other Altcoins or fiat. During the week of writing this post 1 STEEM has fluctuated between $0.71~ and $0.75~ US dollars.
Though there are a number of wallet options for STEEM, I know that at the time of this writing Exodus, my favorite multi-currency wallet does not accept it. Kraken and Poloniex do process it however.

  • LBRY. LBRY and Odysee.com are part of the same network and are similar to Steemit, but they run on the LBC (LBRY Credits) coin and use a different rewards system. The developers say that they want LBRY to “ultimately grow to be a catalog of every piece of digital content available.”
Also, like Steemit, it incentivizes shy caterpillars to break their cocoons and emerge as something spectacular. If you’re curious about what Odysee.com is compared to LBRY it’s well explained here.
Like STEEM, LBCs are not yet supported on Exodus but also supported on Kraken and has a native wallet of its own that also curates the site content. At the time of this writing LBCs have been fluctuating between $0.21 and $0.25 US dollars on the exchanges.

Both LBRY and Odysee can be experienced through the web browser at their respective invite links. Or you can download the LBRY desktop app/wallet here.

  • Dtube. I’m very new to Dtube and don’t yet know much about it. It’s another video sharing/curating site that uses DTC tokens as incentive. As a decentralized version of Youtube it has promise, like LBRY, of becoming huge and valuable.
I do know that it’s built on the Steemit blockchain and integrates seamlessly with apps like Steemit (above) and Hive.
You can find their Steemit channel here. I haven’t researched DTC tokens so much yet. They’re definitely not supported on Exodus yet but I still haven’t looked on the exchanges for them. I’ve read that you can also earn STEEM there too but I haven’t yet verified that for myself.
I’m sure I can rely on a reply from someone who knows more.

As I research all this I’m reminded of the volatile nature of crypto-currencies and the importance of researching, not only coin you invest in with fiat, but the coin you invest your time, energy and imagination into, as well. The research brought me to many now defunct projects that initially appeared to have such great promise. Here are some of the results:

  • ADZCoin - The best I could find about ADZCoin resided here. Though all links from there lead to error pages.

  • SOLA – The SOLA project once promised to bring back the internet glory days of StumbleUpon, but the blockchained version. All links to primary source eventually led to web archives.

  • KIN – The token released by the super popular app KiK soon saw the developers in court against the SEC with an unfavorable outcome.
A few examples of the ugly, out of countless unmentionables, that I’m glad I never wasted any human resource in. So it’s definitely worth researching where you invest your assets of time and calories; and remember scams are only around during the bull days, who survives the bear is your concern.

Saying that, good opportunities still abound:

  • Voice - Is a brand new social network that is being developed by Block.one on top of the EOS blockchain. So new that you’d still only be on a waiting list if you were to sign up. If you’d like to explore Voice more you can do so here.

  • Minds – Is emerging as a decentralized, blockchain alternative to Facebook and Twitter. They’ve been going since 2015 so have some legitimacy in terms of crypto-currencies and blockchain tech.

  • Indorse – Blockchain powered alternative to LinkedIn with rewards.

  • Sapien – Another blockchain powered social media site that focuses on combating fake news and privacy algorithms.

  • SocialX – It’s still in beta and I haven’t explored it much though seems like a photo and video sharing social media, blockchain alternative to Instagram.

The future is decentralized. In the long, Big Tech will eventually lose large portions of their market or be forced to integrate. In the short, get in now. If platforms like Steemit or LBRY, for example, get even a portion of the Facebook or Youtube market, respectively, than your tokens could turn into time and calories very well invested.

If you have any other recommendations please share them. If you have constructive criticism please share it. The posts will improve as I improve and I’ll continue adding to this post as I explore the other options more thoroughly. ‘Part 2: Altcoin Airdrops’ will be posted in a few days. Happy waging!!
