The Spanish tax authorities, known as the AETAT (Agencia Estatal de Administración Tributaria) decided to pay close attention to the crypto-currency holders . In fact, sixty companies, exchanges and financial institutions operating in the sector of digital currencies have seen the IRS requesting information . For applications that are obviously disturbing for those who are passionate about digital currencies in Spain.
An important observation
AETAT has made very precise demands from the exchanges, financial institutions and businesses accepting payments crypto-currencies. The goal is simple: it is to assess whether or not to control this sector more ardently than others.
It appears that these requests are actually a sequel to the report of the ONIF which focused on bank accounts abroad by the exchanges. Concerns being sharp in Spain, it is to verify the emergency or not to impose a regulation in the crypto-sector assets.
Specific requests
Applications are very specific to the exchanges. Indeed, the Spanish taxman wants to know the volume of trading digital currencies and the amount of commissions for them. It should also prove a Spanish bank account, with the aim to verify the absence of tax evasion.
Regarding business, these are the ones that offer payments crypto-currencies which are referred. They have to justify the way they charge for these transactions and provide accounting documents to verify if the revenues are reported.
This is not the first time that the Spanish treasury is interested in crypto-currencies. Indeed, in 2015, the AETAT had already sent requests for information regarding the use of these virtual currencies. It seems that the government wants to increase vis-à-vis vigilance crypto-currencies . One might think that especially comes to checking the urgency or not to impose a regulatory framework for digital currencies in Spain ...
