Hi investors, today we're talking about how to make real money in 2018 by investing in masternode coins.
So we'll start by explaining the concept of masternodes (I) before looking at how you can invest in them (II) and finally I'll give you my masternode investment pick of the month: SUCRE(III).
I - What masternodes are.
DASH was the first currency to introduce the system of masternodes. The dash website defines masternodes a:
" [...]computers that run a (dash) wallet and make decisions, such as locking transactions with InstantSend, coordinate mixing of coins, and voting on budget funding. Each masternode [also] has 1 vote and this vote can be used on budget proposals or important decisions that affect (Dash). Masternodes are required to have (1000 Dash) collateral, a dedicated IP address, and be able to run 24 hours a day without a more than a 1 hr connection loss."
Now, it must be noted that masternodes cost money and effort to host so they are paid a share of the block reward to incentivize them.
For expample DASH Masternodes get paid 45% of the block reward on every block, which is distributed to masternodes one at a time. Typically, around 2 dash is paid to each masternode every 7 days. Masternodes are also given voting rights on proposals.
Now, if you were lucky/smart enough to invest in a DASH masternode early this year (which would have cost you about $10,000), your masternode would be now worth:
...over a million dollar and generate passive income equivalent to:
..thank you very much.
Masternodes are amazing investment indeed and provide strong incentives for investors to hold and to promote the network they help secure.
Now it must be noted that Dash is not the only masternode coin out there so, if you miss that boat, despair not because you can easily get yourself a cheap masternode if you know where to look.
II- How to invest in Masternodes.
Most masternodes coins aren't listed on large exchanges like Bitfinex, Binance or Bittrex and will require you to go crypto-hunt onto smaller exchanges (where the smart money shops for new coins) like Cryptopia, Coinsmarkets or NovaExchange.
A good place to start is MasterNodes.online, where most masternodes coins are listed.
There you can rank coins by order of price (Min worth column) to choose a master node that fits your budget. The next step is to do all the normal due diligence you would do before investing in a project:
- the project should have a webiste, twitter and an active Discord /Slack where developers are often online and responsive;
- ideally the project should also have a Github page where you can follow its development;
If the project check these boxes then you can go ahead and buy yourself enough coins for a masternode and start setting up your very own crypto passive-income. However, be aware that most cheap masternodes are bought up fairly rapidly after being listed on MasterNodes.online so don't wait too long before you buy.
III- SUCRE masternodes.
That takes me to my latest investment: "SUCRE".
SUCRE is a DASH clone masternode coin which aims at becoming the major crypto player in South America. The project is very young and quite similar to DASH in terms of specs, rewards and distribution (smaller instamine though).
The risk-reward on this investment is extremely high. The project is only a month old so a SUCRE masternode will only cost you around $200 at the time of writing. Besides, there is real potential for a "latin" DASH, South American countries have a long history of economic instability and hyperinflation so the proposition of a decentralized, anonymous and inflation-resistant crypto cash just makes perfect sense.
For more on the project you can check their website here and join their Discord channel here.
Finally, you can buy yourself some SUCRE (SURC) on this exchange (thin order book so manage your position size accordingly).
Cheers and Happy New Year 2018
damn, the price of the masternode for SUCRE is already $1200...that's crazy, do you think it would still be worthwhile to invest in a masternode or would it be better to find a cheaper one?
thanks in advance

Hi @brodie321, the project is still very young so one could still get a MN at $1200 and be profitable in the long run, however price is x10 already so I'd say your best bet is to place low orders on Coinsmarkets and hope to get a nice fill in case the price flashcrashes (which happens a lot in thin markets), but don't worry, if you missed that boat, wait for the next cheap MN coin to come around and buy early :)

thanks @felixlechat, you'd better off looking for cheaper coins though, it's very expensive to buy a top100 coin masternode these days, look for the low hanging fruit ;)

Same! I might buy myself another masternode before the coin gets too expensive ;)

It's not everyday you can become a whale/masternode for so cheap.

Well great advice!! Unfortunately I can’t afford to run a node because our data is very expensive in this part of the world. However, I will grab me a lot of cheap sucr just in case the coin follows in Dash’s tracks. On a different topic, when do you expect a dip on the current altcoin run? I was thinking of cashing out my most profitable altcoins and waiting for a dip before buying back again.

Hi @getrichfast, which part of the world are you from?
Regarding altcoins, Bitcoin is, too me, looking quite bullish again (RSI is oversold on the weekly) which good news for altcoins, I would hold onto them or sell for BTC. However if you've never taken cash profit on anything yet, then you might want to scale out maybe 10-20% of your crypto into cash (for risk management) and hold on to the rest of your bags.

I am from South Africa. Our government and private sector are artificially keeping data prices very high for their own benefit while screwing us consumers in the process. In terms of profit taking, I have been doing it wrongly I think. I would sell about 90% of the coin with the highest returns. Now I’ll just take 15 to 20% across the board. Thanks.

Buying early and holding is going to be the best strategy going into 2018 I reckon, patience, patience, patience :)

You should have included in this article that you need to run a virtual private server for the masternode.

Not necessarily a VPS, but any computer that stays on 24/7. Obviously, a VPS is more convenient though.

To run MN you need a fixed IP (order from your ISP, about 5-10 $/month extra cost) and should be aware that opening ports expose your computer to hackers!

Sure, I didn't want to get too technical in this article though because I am just starting to scratch the surface, do you have much experience running masternodes @chesatoshi ??

No, the only thing I manage at the moment is my own Wordpress crypto blog.

Great article. I was contemplating buying the SUCRE coins when the masternode was still under $300USD, I just dont trust that coinsmarkets.com exchange, they don't even have an SSL certificate deployed which in my opinion is inexcusable.
Anyone have any experience with this exchange? thanks

hey @ddcrypto, I bought my SUCRE on CoinsMarkets and it was fine at the time but the exchange is now down for maintenance until the end of January. SUCRE dev recommended https://cryptohub.online/ which is basically a less liquid Cryptopia but you might wanna check the sell price carefully before you buy because I heard SUCR tokens are trading at a premium there.
Hope this helps :)
Edit: I've just opened an account on cryptohub.online and the trading experience is way, way superior to Coinsmarkets

Hey @tradealert thanks heaps for the tip. I will give that exchange a go, coinsmarkets.com scared the hell out of me, didnt want to click on anything for fear of getting hacked :)
These masternode coins are pretty crazy, I bought enough coins for a bitrad.io masternode earlier in the week, i single handedly moved the price by around 8% as my purchase for 1000 coins was around 10% of the trade volume for that day on cryptopia for that coin, which is a bit of a joke.
Thanks again.

I am a ridiculous trader. Naturally, masternodes are the savior for me. But then it is so hard to find a masternode with some sort of use case. I am so lucky to find Fantasy Gold Coin (FGC). I would have bought it even if there were no rewards. Masternode rewards just sweetens the deal!! https://masternodes.online/currencies/FGC/

Hi tradealert, I guess you was right with the risk reward is extremly high, 5 months before this Masternode was 200 USD worth and today this Masternode is 25 USD worth. This is with many Masternodes happening. Carefully with your investment.
