Google To Ban Ads on Cryptocurrencies

After Facebook has already completely banned or discontinued advertising for cryptocurrencies, another Internet giant is now catching up with Google. However, the new changes should not come into force immediately, but only in June of this year.

At the launch of the annual "Bad Ad" report, it was announced that there will be a change to the justifications for advertising in the financial sector. These include a whole range of topics, including cryptocurrencies. The message says:

Ads for aggregators and affiliates for the following will no longer be allowed to serve:

  • Contracts for Difference
  • Rolling spot forex
  • Financial spread betting
  • Binary options and synonymous products
  • Cryptocurrencies and related content.

According to the message no more advertising, which in a broader sense has to do with cryptocurrencies thematically. This includes the application for cryptoexchanges, ICOs and wallet providers.

Nevertheless, it should be possible for advertisers to obtain certification for advertising in these areas if certain guidelines are adhered to. The update will be rolled out at the beginning of June.

According to Google, the reason for this step is the protection of the users themselves and the guarantee of a perfect web experience for all users. These measures are necessary because they are also a very sensitive area.

I guess with all the scams, it has become impossible for Google to discern which advertisers are legitimate and which are fake. They can't even stop fake wallets from making into their App store.

I can't blame Goggle for this heavy-handed approach, but I'm afraid this is the only thing that will stop the rampant scams at this point.

I’m more inclined to believe this is the reason as opposed to some sort of deep state conspiracy against crypto. If you look at the ICO nu,very, I think it was something like 75% of ICOs were failures or scams.

I'm with you, to some extent. There are so many scams out there, just look at BitConneeeeccct.

With so little regulation, and because crypto remains an emerging market, I think they have to take a fairly generic approach to it. They can't be specific because nobody really has the specifics yet.

How about the diet, supplement, health, dating, erectile dysfunction and other scams that fill my screen?

I think there is a conspiracy going on against crypto currency, I think there are some major world power who are really Concerned about the rise of crypto,
For me it's a step of many other, I do hope crypto can withstand it.

I agree with you. In the five bullets above, the first four are fairly specific while the last one about crypto currencies is very general. I think I will respond to this by banning google. When I'm not on Steem, and I need to search for something I will just Bing it. :)

I have seen a lot ICO's lately that targeted on bringing advertisement and blockchain together, maybe that news will set an impulse on that industry. Every bad news is a chance for a new opportunity, so we will see.

And Presearch is attempting to take over the Search Engine market, let's not forget that. Perhaps Google is feeling threatened? Unlikely, but plausible.

Dont use google...use duckduckgo.com

No joke.. I started using Duck Duck go awhile back.. This is only the latest in Google censorship.. BUT not only that, they have been recording your every move on the web and selling it to the highest bidder for years.. BUT all of a sudden they are "worried" about our safety and internet experience.. YEAH right..

That wasn't a joke. . DuckDuckGo does not track you, does not give you personalized results, and respect your privacy. Competition is good for the customer and having a single company controlling so much of the internet is really unhealthy, here are a few figures about Google’s market share:

  • 80% of the online searches

  • 88% of online search advertisement

  • 60% of browser market share

  • 90% of the mobile OS

I was surprised to see the search functionality on Steemit is powered by Google which serves ads on it.. Duck duck go sounds a lot more aligned with the values of Steemit so I hope there is a way seach results on Steemit search bar can be replaced by duck duck go. .

While Duck duck go has a long way to go, Grandpa Google is not letting it grow.

I generally recommend that everyone use only pornohub! :) And nice and does not spoil your nerves, like Google!

I can’t say I haven’t use that search engine. LoL

I think you misunderstood my broken humor maybe. my comment.,. I agree with you 100% I use Duck duck go because it doesn't track.

lol...checked that out...first thing I wanted to do was search Google News...lol...

Peace.

No empire lasts forever. Sooner or later, Grandpa Google is going to be overthrown. I'm going to check out Duck Duck Go right now!

I tried it years ago; and, found myself back at Google. I gave it a try again yesterday; and, so far so good; but, it's far too soon to say I'm 100% on board. I'm of the belief it's all interlinked on some level ;+).

Peace.

I hope so too, we need to win this we have been enslaved for too long and taxation is THEFT!

Agreed. Facebook and Google seem to want to control everything. They are going to fail, as they are directly in opposition to what people (their customers) want. They are acting very dictatorial.

Sounds familiar: Google, Facebook, SEC
"According to the SEC, being accredited investor shows that an investor is sophisticated and has sufficient funds so as not to need the same protections as an unsophisticated poor investor." As a poor person the SEC is trying to protect my 5K that I am trying to invest in some ICO . But those rich credited investors have open a casino 5 miles from my house where I am completely free to walk in any time with the same 5K. Thank you SEC. I love free USA

This is just another step towards keeping anything from taking business from Google. The other items on the list make sense but this is definitely an act to "kill the competition". If you think about it, many cryptocurrencies aim to take away from big players like google. ADX being one. Also, newer blockchains aim to take advantage of Google's algorithms regarding content to further the blockchain. At the end of the day though, the market always wins it could take years but at some point you cant just silence a better product.

It does make business sense. Swarm of crypto investing videos opens them up to litigation risk and minimal advertising revenue than say someone trying to promote household products. Risk reward of crypto content isn’t worth it for the likes of FB and Google.

Maybe that's not so bad.
Advertising has taken over the top anyway and is almost annoying. People who want to operate in such markets are looking for a way to participate. They don't need advertising. And maybe the scams will then disappear from the market, which will remain a wishful thought. 😉

Its really a sad new :( but hope for good! Like all other fuds crypto will survive this fud too!

These approaches are too heavy. Google and Facebook have a lot of influence over what people think and believe. No matter their intentions, 'No ads on cryptocurrencies' generally translates to 'Cryptocurrencies are bad for our users and we don't believe in them'.
News like these are contributing majorly to the persistent downtrend of the crypto market.

So conflicted about this. Because the core idea behind cryptocurrency is a really interesting and valuable step in the right direction. However, so many shady people are exploiting the hype around it for ill-gotten gains. Even as a fan of crypto, I can't really blame Google for making this decision.

Yesterday Cambodian Government has announced that they will try their level best to block the growth of crypto currency. This is not good, as per me government wants to be on top of all and wants to keep an eye on everyone.
For safety reasons it can be accepted to a certain level but not beyond the certain level.
Latest article i came across regarding crypto currency with Cambodian Government : https://www.financemagnates.com/cryptocurrency/news/cambodian-government-cryptocurrency/

I personally think it is a good thing for a few reasons.

  1. It stops the ICOs with the biggest budget simply steamrolling great innovative projects. Any website can get clicks and views if they have a huge marketing budget for Google Adwords.

  2. It forces ICOs to think outside of the box and reach their communities in other ways, platforms like Crowdholding will be the future, as no longer will they be able to just spam people to come to their site, but will have to engage them through co-creation.

  3. It gives more power to bounties, people will spread the word of the ICO that has either got the best bounty campaign or a project they believe in. Although bounties can be manipulated by offering large sums, it is still better than google Adwords.

The only thing I don't like is that Google is clearly trying to strangle crypto. It's just underhand tactics to break the price, so they can invest into it or scare off users of crypto.

Upvoted for a great article, keep up the good work!

On the one hand, the measure is good, but on the other hand, the message is bad.
the good the scam ico are no longer promoted, but the bad news that ico have the potential that not get much attention.

There is a great fear for them against crypto. they thought it would be unchallenged. we hope all hopefully crypto is increasing

Great article, upvoted.

i think this guys are running scared this is bad for business but all will change, cryptos are th future of finace

Thus we see the early skirmishes of the Great Decentralization War. The leaders of the financial world do not want Crypto to have a piece of the money pie. They want to block the blockchain.
History shows that greed almost always leads to destruction.

I am not surprised. Google is generally inadequate company. If there was a democracy such actions would not exist!

Ads are always disgusting @tradewonk

I think pandoras box has well and truly been opened and whatever these big corporations do to contain it will only increase its value

Time to start using Yahoo again...

why does this matter? are there ads for the U.S. dollar? ads for stocks? no

Agree with you.

I think its good for Crypto Community on long term basis for following reasons -

  1. Crypto Currency & Community won't rely on Google anymore.
  2. Bad Seeds (Short Term, Quick Profit) Investors will slowly vanish.
  3. Only serious traders and ICO will grow over period of time
  4. New opportunity for developers to make decentralized search engine

There are so many possibility to come in future and lets all be optimist about it.

Google can ban all cryptocurrency-related advertising of every type in June 2018, in step with a recent update to their money Services policy. The news of a crypto ad ban comes simply days when crypto advertisers victimization Google Adwords noticed a forceful come by the amount of views of their advertisements, in step with posts on the Adwords support pages. However, Google Adwords had at that point denied any amendment in their money Services rules that may block cryptocurrency or Initial Coin providing (ICO) connected advertisements.Under Google’s fresh updated money product policy, no advertisements for “cryptocurrencies and connected content (including however not restricted to initial coin offerings, cryptocurrency exchanges, cryptocurrency wallets, and cryptocurrency commercialism advice),” are accepted.
The move affects all of Google's ad product, which means firms won't be ready to serve crypto-related ads on the computer programme giant’s own sites, likewise as third-party sites in its network.

First Facebook, now Google. This really shows me they are afraid, the war of consciousness is underway. Google and FB Love having access to all your data and fear decentralized replacements. It’s funny that use fear and cute consumer harm when it’s them with the fear. It almost makes me want to boycott them but we’ve become so dependent.

These regulations only targeted for cryptocurrencies with all the recent scams makes you want to think about the true motive behind.

One of these days Google will get some real competition and hopefully they can go the same route as the Nokia's and Blackberries :-) They are getting way to big. They make money off people and don't give a second thought to ban people from their play store, their services and more and what Google says it the law. Some really exciting projects already in the Crypto world and with the likes of Steem and others the big players might be a thing of the past soon.

Good!

Honestly, Google Ads either included scams (Trade on the best exchange: BlNANCE.com --protip, the l is an L) or ICOs which were very shady.

My "investment rule" for ICOs always was: If I see an ad for it on Facebook or Google, I won't invest in it. Simple as that. If you want to attract the masses who do not have a clue about crypto, you need to be very desperate.

Google banned ads criptocurrency! This is not good news. Social media and the world's largest search engine began to panic. They began to feel that the growth of the cripto currency grew rapidly, as well as sites like Steemit which became a steam mine, one of the crypto coins, grew very well. I think, google policy banned cryptocurrency ads a wrong policy.

I don't know bro, it's all smelling fishy to me. I wouldn't be surprised of Cryptocurrency Exchange Rigging. Everything is just conveniently going down for the big players. Because let's face it. THEY CANNOT DESTROY CRYPTO!

I guess it is an "okay" move to reduce the number of newcomers who don't do their research and expect to get rich tomorrow lol. But for the crytocurrency market and blockchain technology to flourish, I don't think we need Google or Facebook or other centralized websites that steal our personal data and track our behaviors like we're lab mice.

There is a war against Bitcoin and cryptocurrencies in general, cryptocurrencies is a threat to the government and the entire financial system.
They fear the collapse of the fiat currencies, freedom from there evil system of taxation and the way they can prevent this is by putting fear in the minds of people through the media and internet giants like facebook and now google.
Here is where I think steemit is important as it is decentralised and not controlled by some body that can be manipulated by the governments.
This is a war and I strongly wish we win to free humans from the evil government whose chief aim is to enrich themselves.

It figures, why would Google differ from any of the other big fish in the "pond".
There was a time when there were search engines (plural), now there`s "The One" :-)
Here are 7 Search Engines Google Obliterated over time:
Excite (1993 - 2001); InfoSeek (1994 – 2001); AltaVista (1994 – 2003); HotBot (1996 – 2003); AllTheWeb (1999 – 2003); Yahoo! (1995 – 2010); Ask Jeeves (1997 – 2010) (remember the cute waiter with his hand pointing :-))
May they all RIP.

I`m guessing back then, their principals were the same as now "protection of the users themselves and the guarantee of a perfect web experience"... if so... there are much more terrifying things on their "perfect web" then PAID crypto adds!
