There are many ways to convert your altcoin into fiat. This is how I've been doing this lately.
I recently applied for a Shift card at shiftpayments.com. Haven't used it yet.
But I have linked my PayPal and Coinbase accounts. This allows for instant sells of BTC, ETH and LTC direct to your PayPal account. Now, if you have a PayPal debit card, you can go straight to any ATM and immediately withdraw the cash, or use the card as a MasterCard at many locations.
I've been using this method for a bit of profit taking this spring. It's kinda' cool sitting in a bar with a smartphone and saying 'check this out...'.
If you're patient enough you can even sell altcoins for BTC/LTC/ETH through an exchange or similar service, deposit them to Coinbase, (I recommend LTC. It's faster) and go from there.
I'm looking forward to the even simpler Shift card to arrive.
