Dimon Knocks Bitcoin Again: Crackdown Probably in Cryptocurrency 'Worthless'

Jamie Dimon is back.

Expanding its recent criticisms of bitcoin, JPMorgan Chase Bank CEO is again on the "will go bad" media alert for technology. In a new round of media interviews, Dimon told CNBC he was concerned about a flood of encryption - thanks to bitcoin, ethereum and initial currency offerings (ICOs) - and he believes governments will soon criticize the phenomenon.

Predicting that the scenario will not be beautiful, the CEO has stated that the authorities would eventually threaten users with arrest, forcing the cryptographers into a black market.

"At the moment these encryption things are kind of new, people think they're nice, but the bigger they are, the more governments are going to close them,

Speaking to the Economic Times in India, Dimon added more detail to his thoughts, this time addressing the idea that global governments can issue encryption.

"We already have digital coins ... you can have a digital rupee, so I'm not against digital coins," he said.

"I'm talking about creating money and value out of thin air," he continued. "Governments now look at it as if it were a novelty, but the greater the novelty, the more it becomes."

The new remarks follow a polarized statement made by Dimon last week when he openly called the bitcoin a "fraud" and that he would fire any employee for bargaining it. Notably, Dimon is being accused of spreading false and misleading information in a market complaint by Blockswater, a company in Sweden.
