Would you risk your life to find mammoth tusks?

I ran across this story of how people in Siberia risk their lives for the chance to get rich searching for mammoth bones. Sounds like some Indiana Jones stuff, the reality is much tougher. I don't intend to start filling my posts with links to other material, but given the interesting story I'd like to share it with you. The link to the story and pictures is here:

The reason I'm sharing this is, because it made me think of how people generally don't understand the value of saving and investing. If you have the money to leave work and go on a hunt for mammoth bones, you probably have some savings also. They are probably minimal, but they are savings, and those savings could potentially grow. Of course, I realize that not everyone has access to what I'm used to having, internet banking and so on. But thanks to cryptocurrency, now many people can start investing with just minor investments and make a fortune, or at least make more money.

I don't want to sound like I think everyone has the same opportunities, I know they don't. But I also think people are generally more inclined to go for the gamble, like risking their lives for the chance to find some bones in the wilderness. Anyway, if you are reading this, you most likely have the opportunity to invest in cryptocurrency at the least. I want you to think of your own behavior. Do you usually go for the risky choice of buying a lottery ticket? Or do you invest that dollar or what ever it costs in another way, like into cryptocurrency?

I'll admit, I do both. Occasionally I buy a lottery ticket in the hopes of winning a few million, but I'm realistic, I don't really believe I ever will. But I also invest most of my savings, mostly to the stock market, because I like to think I understand how that works. Instead of going for the chance of getting a hundred thousand in a week, I go for the getting a hundred thousand for sure in 10 years.

Well this post is mostly about getting you to think about what you generally do. Does the mammoth tusk sound like something you'd go searching for if you knew people who did it and had the chance? Or doing something similar? Or do you invest wisely and expect realistic outcomes? For example, writing steemit articles and collecting steempower can eventually lead to a hefty sum, but that will take much time, are you up to it?

Interesting comparison.

And I think most of the people do both. As we are all chasing the next 5000% coin fe, but hopfully not risking our life and not even an arm, maybe a finger.

As a poker player, I really dont like lotto and see it as kind of a tax on the poor and stupid.

I also have most of my savings in the stock market atm and I will see if I move more into crypto as I learn more about it.

Most people here might do it, but generally most people just go for the chance to win quick.

I also think putting money in lotto is stupid. But I still do it sometimes :D But at least for me it is something like 10€/year. Not a 10€/month or a year. I tell myself it is ok, because where I come from, part of the money goes to charity and helps people.

I consider myself an investor first and foremost. Gambling and being a speculator doesn't appeal to me because the end result seems to much to be dependent on chance. And trust me I'm not what you would call lucky lol :D Hard work and smart investing wins the day for me :)

I agree. It is best just to invest smartly. For me, gambling with small money is sometimes dreaming of wealth, or buying a chance for dreams to come true. However, I would never gamble with a lot of money. But I do invest with a lot of money and I don't think that is gambling.

that sound like a big risk to take. but I also have a friend who have been into FOREX and now in a big debt. I am not sure how things works for him, but as you said, to risk things we have to know what we are facing.

It is important to only invest what you can afford to loose :)

couldn't agree more. i also have learn and studied the Forex and it is a bit hard to understand for me.

I have no experience in forex trading, but I prefer the stock market. :)

i guess it is kind of the same. but well learning it by myself with no real tutor is really hard.

Again, nice read. Made me think about those harsh conditions. Waiting for new posts :)

Thank you :)
