Crypto-jacking is increasingly becoming a problem and researchers at Trend Micro recently discovered YouTube ads which were being used to mine Monero at the expense of visitors' resources. It was found that these ads contained illegal cryptocurrency mining scripts based on CoinHive.
Trend Micro stated that the discovery of crypto-jacking script tripled after initial reports by users on Twitter. It found that the illegal script abused Google's DoubleClick ad network and aimed at consuming 80% of the host CPU's power. For now, Google says that the issue has been fixed and malicious elements removed.
