After Facebook, Google and Twitter, MailChimp decides to ban cryptos, ICO marketing

Mailchimp, the leading automated marketing company, is reportedly blocking all ICO and cryptocurrency related campaigns on its platform. This decision to ban cryptos was reported in a tweet by Mailchimp earlier this week.

The company tweeted, “Cryptocurrency-related information isn’t necessarily prohibited. It can be sent as long as the sender isn’t involved in the production, sale, exchange, storage, or marketing of cryptocurrencies”

Mailchimp reported that it will restrict its services from being used for cryptocurrency campaigns primarily because they are usually associated with scams, cyber fraud, phishing and other online social vices.

The email marketing service providers disclosed that the company has updated its Acceptable Use Policy which would take effect on 30th of April. Mailchimp warned that a violation of this new policy could result in a ban or permanent suspension of account.

Concerning the new policy change, Mailchimp disclosed that “we cannot allow businesses involved in any aspect of the sale, transaction, exchange, storage, marketing or production of cryptocurrencies, virtual currencies, and any digital assets related to an Initial Coin Offering, to use MailChimp to facilitate or support any of those activities.”

A cryptocurrency expert Alex Pompliano disclosed on Twitter that Mailchimp’s banning of ICO and cryptocurrency related emails would actually help the industry. He further stated that it is better to remove power from centralized authorities involved in the blockchain industry.

Internet giants unite in their decision to ban Cryptos, ICOs


Mailchimp is the latest internet service provider to block cryptocurrency related adverts on its platform. Other major companies like Google, Twitter and Facebook has also banned cryptocurrency related ads. Although, Google's new policy would be effective by June this year.

Soon after its ban on cryptocurrency-related ads, world number one tech company Google was slammed with a lawsuit in Russia. The company has suggested it was looking to use blockchain technology for its cloud business. The company is working on a range of crypto-related technologies to power its online services.
