As of July 2018, there are over 1,500 different cryptocurrencies in existence, with a combined market capitalization of over $270 billion.
Bitcoin, the first and most well-known cryptocurrency, accounts for more than half of the total market cap at around $140 billion. Other major cryptocurrencies include Ethereum ($28 billion), Ripple ($13 billion), Bitcoin Cash ($12 billion), EOS ($6 billion), and Litecoin ($5 billion).
There are many smaller cryptocurrencies that have been gaining in popularity in recent months, such as Cardano, Stellar, NEO, and IOTA. These "altcoins" (alternative coins) typically have more focused or specialized use cases than Bitcoin.
With so many different cryptocurrencies to choose from, it can be tough to know where to invest your money. However, given the tremendous growth in the crypto space in recent years, there is surely still plenty of room for expansion and new opportunities.
