The year 2017 has been a crazy year for cryptocurrencies. From obscure technology to future’s on bitcoin… Many things have changed, new coins have emerged, enormous speculation is happening. In the following paragraph i’ll put forward my views on crypto in 2018.
The Coins
- Bitcoin
Well… it will probably keep rising. Though I think it’ll rise slower than it has recently. I think people will also realise the downsides of bitcoin: the massive energy consumption, the large transactions fees, the relatively slow confirmation time. - Ethereum
In the past year we have seen many interesting applications emerge on the ethereum blockchain. Certainly this will keep going but ethereum might need to innovate as well to keep up with some other emerging platforms such as Cardano and NEO. - Ripple
Well, we might actually need a coin that is fast and cheap to send, that can be used for small payments. Ripple might be the one.
Other coins that are interesting:
- Cardano
This project blew my mind. It is the first project where I thought: wow, this is something solid, something that has been though about. A 3rd generation cryptocurrency with an amazing development team and great ideas. I will soon write an article about this on. Certainly a great project to keep an idea on! I think it could be bigger than Ethereum. - BAT
The basic attention token that is connected to the super fast brave webbrowser. It allow to have a wallet in the browser and divide small amounts of money to the websites you visit. The future model for a sustainable internet without ads and trackers, it could very well be! - Siacoin
Decentralised cloud storage… that is, very cheap!
Future thoughts
Alright, these are some of my thoughts on the currents coins. I think in the coming year some of the coins that are most usable will stand out, some other altcoins that don't have a distinctive feature will drop or disappear. Eventually there will be a handful of coins with different distinctive purposes that will survive I predict.
