Crypto Daily team members were among the participants in the recent Run for Light event held in Singapore in support of the charity Guide Dogs Singapore. The event, held on the 26th of January 2019 at Punggol Waterway Park, was established in 2014 to raise funds and awareness - and to bring light to people dealing with vision problems and blindness. The day consisted of three races of varying lengths, with participants paying an entry fee and part of the proceeds pledged to assist the charity.
Event Registration
Participants who wished to register to take part in the 2019 Run for Light event were invited to do so by paying a registration fee for the race or races they wished to join. Discounted entry fees were available for group bookings. The 5km fun run race was open to anyone over the age of 4 and the 10km competitive race to anyone aged 13 or over, with parental permission required for all under-18s. There was also a 1km blindfold walk for pairs. All participants were provided with a race pack which included a t-shirt and official running race identifier among other things, and all who completed a run were presented with a finisher medal.
10km Competitive Event
The main event of the day was the Run for Light 10km race, which was a timed event and included prizes for the first to fifth finishers in both male and female categories. First to third places were awarded SGD$300, $200 and $100 respectively, with fourth and fifth places receiving a pair of Nuke sunglasses. The top five men and women all received a trophy. The winners of the 10km race in 2019 were Hilda Stoney for the women and Nimesh Gurung for the men, with finishing times of 42:36 and 32:32 respectively.
Race Ambassadors
Winner of the men’s 10km event Nimesh Gurung was also one of the race ambassadors in 2019, after winning the 2018 event. Other ambassadors included women’s third place winner Jenny Huang, her partner Steven Chan, Mr Tan Whee Boon and Shariff, aka The Blade. Mr Tan Whee Boon and Shariff are both well-known local sporting personalities who have overcome disabilities to forge a successful sporting career.
