Very rare Crypto Kitty figurine GIVEAWAY! - details in the post

in cryptokitties •  7 years ago  (edited)

Here is the rarest Crypto Kitty you can put your hands on and it can be yours!

Just read the post and follow the rules. It is one of the kind figurine I sculpted exclusively for you Steemians and you can own it only by participating in this fun giveaway.

Backstory

I am active on Steemit platform since August 2017. I wrote many posts about things I sculpted in the past explaining the techniques and encouraging you dear readers to try DIY toys as a method to build your skills in art and crafts. All I earn from my posts and comments is used to power-up my account and give back in my upvotes. My recent post was discovered by one of the @curie curators last week and this event gave me a positive boost of confidence and I decided to give something back for your support. I wanted to make something exclusively for crypto enthusiasts while using my skills. Since I am not the best trader so I can't give you my advice, but I now how to sculpt. When browsing Steemit I saw one of the @brittuf posts and got this idea, to make a physical representation of Cryptokitties. It is only one figure like that in the whole world and you can have it. You can keep it as souvenir of this internet phenomenon, sell on eBay or pass it to your friend. It is like real crypto, you can't send it twice :)

Rules

It is a raffle. Next week, after the payout, I will randomly choose one person and send him/her the figure by registered post. To take part you can do one or all the following:

  • Upvote this post. Each vote no matter how small gives you one chance to win the figure. If your vote is bigger than 1 SBD you will get 1 ticket per each 1 SBD of value of your upvote.

  • Resteem to get 1 extra chance per 1000 of your followers. That means that if you have 3456 followers, you get 3 tickets in the raffle.

If the final payout is less than 30 SBD, it means that public decided it was not such a great idea and the giveaway is canceled.

Stretch Goals!

To spice the things a bit more, here are the stretch goals

If this post reaches 100 SBD, the winner will get an option to modify this cat. I will paint him and customize based on winners favorite kitty.

If this post reaches 200 SBD, I will make the SECOND cat for the person with the BIGGEST upvote based on his design of choice.

If this post reaches 500 SBD (I know it is crazy but let's make it exciting), I will make the THIRD cat based on Genesis Cat which will be the main prize. The second person from the raffle will get this model with the option to repaint it and the biggest upvoter will get one automatically the cat of his choice.

If you don't have enough Steem Power but you still want to have a chance to play for biggest upvote prize, you can fund an upvoting bot as long as your name appears on its comment.
Please leave the comment what do you think about this contest so I know somebody read this.
I will contact the selected person by wallet, comment and any means possible, but if this person will not respond with shipping details in 1 week, I will randomly choose the second person.

How was it made aka Proof of Work

You can skip this part if you don't have time or you are not interested in the process of creating this figure:) I wanted to sculpt it in clay but didn't have enough Sculpey at hand so decided to sculpt him digitally. I used a free program called Sculptris. It is a very basic version of Zbrush, you can download it and play with it, it is very intuitive. I already used it few times on different projects. You start with the sphere and shape it by pushing or pulling areas of the mesh using your mouse or pen and tablet. You can add multiple spheres to form separate shapes like eyes, ears and legs. When I was happy with the sculpt I exported it as .obj file, one of 2 options I could choose. I opened this in Meshlab to convert it to .stl which is the format ready for 3d printers. Because this model was not a single mesh but many separate (eyes, nose, ears and legs) I opened it in Meshmixer and turned it to single solid. I also used plane cut to make the bottom flat. I exported it as .stl file and it was ready to feed it to the slicer. I use Makerware, the program which came with my printer. I saved the file on SD card and pressed print on my machine.

It took 4h and 30 minutes to print it and it used 17.6m of PLA plastic for the body. It wasn't bad, it would be awesome if it was ready to paint. Not so fast :) That's the beginning of the labor-intensive task. I need to remove the lines from the printing visible on the surface, especially after painting. I sanded it with sander where I could reach and later with a piece of sandpaper around the little details and hard to reach areas.

I then filled all the holes I could see with Tamiya putty. As you can see, almost whole figure is covered with this smelly white stuff. When it dried, I sanded it by hand with sandpaper, the second pass.

That left the figure with some of the lines filled. I sprayed it 3 times with filler primer, that covered the whole thing with even color what helps to see any areas which need more putty.

As you can see below, many areas need more attention. I sanded it again and sprayed with primer. I still could find few places for extra spot putty. It took me 6 passes to get the smooth surface. When it was ready, I painted it with white primer to have a good base for final colors.

I went through all the color variations on the sales page at crypto kitty website. It was hard to choose one, but through a process of elimination of opened windows, I ended with this one. I know, you would probably choose differently, and you will have this option hopefully ;) I will happily sand it one more time and paint it the way YOU like it. That is what I do!

It is painted with acrylics. I used green and blue to mix the main color. It was applied with brushes, was a good coverage, I only needed to paint it twice to get a nice finish. At the end, I sprayed it with a matte clear coat for extra protection.

What do you think? Do you like him? Would you like to see more kitties like that? You can drop pictures of your favorite color scheme in comments below. Thanks for your time, upvotes and I wish you luck in the draw! Let's have some fun!

Dear @pharesim;

I need any help to stop @grumpycat hurting innocent people.
We have to show that Steemit is bigger than any bully who is trying to impose his own rules by using his high SP on innocent people.
The post below is the summary of the situation :

Thank you for any help to stop the actions of @grumpycat.

Best Regards.

Thanks for the tip. I use steemworld.org I like its interface. I see it is a lot of information on steemdb. Thanks for the link. I will be checking it until I get used to and it will become my second nature to type it.
Good luck in my contest. I hope your daughter is not a toddler because I don't know how the paint will behave when licked :)

Yeah, steemdb has all the data. Very comprehensive. And no, my daughter is a teenager, so no worries there ;)

Finally a kittie with true value!

Hehe, Yes. I will sign it with my name and spend the rest of my life trying to raise its value, I promise! You didn't see the best of me yet!

I like the cat just how he is - he looks great!

Very nice work in creating this, and very creative contest! I'm IN!

I would love to win this. I won the one-of-a-kind clay Steem Dollar, made by @stellabelle in the very early days of steemit and it is a prized possession. If I happen to get this cat, he will have a little spending money sitting right next to him!

Resteemed and Up Voted 100%

Good luck to everyone who enters this cool contest!!!

Thanks for your massive help. It is half way to my first stretch goal and I can already say it is a success. It broke my records for views and already makes my brain spinning, what can I make next.
I wish you success in the draw, you have multiple tickets from what I see so big chances to win it. It would be cool to see him next to the coin, as part of your steemit collection.

Oh my goodness, how cute! I would LOVE to see more kitties like this. 3D printing is so badass. I'd never seen so many variations before but a quick google search pulled this up:

If we don't win, would you consider selling them for Steem right here on Steemit?

Thanks for your nice words. Yes there is so many designs, I spent 2 hours going through them and eliminating :) It was hard choice to settle on one color scheme.
This one passed my minimum so it will go to somebody. Maybe to you, we will see. I will consider selling them if people will be interested. Making custom figures is what I do, check my other posts, I am most often hired to make custom engagement ring boxes :)

Wow, that's awesome! Yes, I do hope I win. 🤓 I will check out your other work!

Thanks for doing this giveaway! It's really cool to see your creative process, too. I think the cryptokitty turned out great … does it have a name? Or does the winner get to pick a name? :)

My pleasure. I had fun making it (except the sanding part which I still hate :) ) It does not have a name, if you have an idea, we can name him or leave it for the winner of the raffle. I can even print the name or barcode of winners ethereum wallet address as a decal on the back if you wish

Well, if I win it I'm going to name it Caspar. :)

I like this name!

Wow this figure is aweeeesome! Thanks for commenting on my post :D You really put a lot of work in creating it, and he outcome is wonderful! Great turn to make a raffle and give it to the community! I'd love to win it!! Resteemed and upvoted! Hope more people join in to show you how awesome your project is!

Thank you. It was fun to make and exceeded my expectations how viral it can go. The community gave me back more already. Thank you for taking part in it and introducing me to your people. I wish you win and thank you for not flagging me for living invitation in your comment :)

No, thank you! ;) I´d never flag such a nice invitation! And I wish I win too haha ;D
That would be such an awesome prize, because I love custom toys and Figurines.
If I win this cute kitty, it will get a special place in my Collection-Showcase :D
So, fingers crossed ;)

I had a look into your blog, and I really like what I see there!
I´m (a not very active) sculptist myself and I really enjoy your works!
It makes my wanna do some things again soon!
And I appreciate your Proof of work! I never tried 3d printing myself, since I had only worked wih traditional materials like clay or Bronze. But after seeing your Proof of Work, I´m really thinking about trying to do some 3d Prints sometimes too. Is this your personal 3d Printer?

Definitely following you, to see more of your awesome works. :)
Have a wonderful day!

Thanks. Yes, huge chunk of my life is on this website. Since i started building, this was my most important place because some of my builds are in other hands now and i am left with photos and memories. I am now failing to update it with new projects because my focus was on this platform :)
Yes, the printer is mine. I have 2 of those now. They are not expensive now and very usefull tool for anybody who makes things. I cant inagine my life without them now. It is chinese copy of old makerbot before they started making them in metal. It has small bed but served me well.
If you are familiar in Bronze you are much more advanced than me. I am now correcting one of my female sculpts and when it will be good enough, i want to cast her in bronze to go through the whole process for the first time. Of course the foundry will take care of some of that but i need to provide wax copy. So far i made a lot of casting in resin so I am ready.
I wish you luck in the draw, i want it to be in good company of other toys :)

Oh great to hear you are trying a bronze casting! Be sure to upload a process post, I'd love to see it! I personally love to work with wax.
That's the first bronze I did years ago. And it's the only one I kept. (Because of the handy size) I just had the wax model, and the foundry guys did all the other stuff, like laying the casting channels. :)

It looks great! Protecting your garden :) Do you make sculptures often? I am a bit scared, the foundry is expensive and the figure I am planning to do will have some small details and problem places. I see I also need to prepare wax so it is hollow. So many things can go wrong.

He is so cute!!! ^_^

Thanks. I tried to be as close to original 2d drawings. They are cute, so it worked.

It's a great project.
I would like to introduce this post to a friend who might like this.

Thanks. I am happy to see you like it and took part in this raffle.

this is really great. good luck :)

Thanks. Good luck to you too in the draw

As someone who has been struggling with kitten addiction for many years, I was immediately attracted to the idea behind the CryptoKitties virtual feline collectibles game – the first game to utilize Ethereum blockchain. CryptoKitties and I are, it seems, an ideal match.

I’ll admit I’m far from an expert in cryptocurrencies and am often skeptical of the current crypto-fever, so I cannot focus intensely on the technological aspect of the phenomenon. It’s the cultural aspect of the CryptoKitty craze that I’m interested in, and here I will present a few key insights that I consider central to the viral success and notoriety of this particular blockchain project.

What the hell are CryptoKitties?

When CryptoKitties emerged in late 2017, no one expected their massive popularity and success. After all, who could have predicted that a digital pet could end up selling for the equivalent of $113,000? Let’s take a look at how this came to be.

CryptoKitties is an Ethereum-based game, which means that each and every transaction in the game is logged and stored in the Ethereum blockchain. In a sense, CryptoKitties are a form of blockchain collectibles, as each of them has a unique “genetic” code and traits – some rarer, more desirable or more expensive than others.

Are you getting Neopets flashbacks already? Well, the developers prefer the comparison to Beanie Babies, the late ’90s fad that had people paying extreme amounts of cash for collectible stuffed animals. However, unlike other collectibles, CryptoKitties have the capacity to breed and produce offspring with new, unique characteristics and traits. I know, I know –it kind of sounds like a digital Beanie Babies puppy mill. Us millennials are the strangest breed of all.

If it also sounds like a pyramid scheme, well, that may be the case. But there was no promise of profits in any of the promotional material or initial discussion of the project. Unlike the countless ICOs of our crypto-hungry era, CryptoKitties does not allude to much more than its name suggests: a blockchain-based game where users buy virtual kittens using Ethereum. As a crypto-kitty buyer, you are essentially purchasing a unique virtual cat, and then by matching it with another one, you get offspring you can collect or sell. The concept is apparently more than enough for the thousands of people who
signed up at the website and submitted their queries for kitty acquisition.

The influx of users and the subsequent amount of micro-transactions resulted in a clogging of the Ethereum blockchain, leading to many failed transactions and raising questions over the scalability of Ethereum. As a result, the media is increasingly paying closer attention to the wild world of cryptocurrencies.

was this sale the marketing trick to raise the awareness about the game and maybe the reason of its popularity?
I like the idea of virtual collectibles but prefer to be able to touch my collection and remove dust once in a while :) I will be watching how long it will last and what new exciting games will be developed inspired by this.

Ha! Very cool, should make these into an actual crypto kitty wallet. You could take the Casacius bitcoin lead and make an indention on the bottom, get tamper resistant stickers and put private keys underneath.

Good idea, I was planning to put the code under it with the wallet address.

I want to see these with the antler gene ;)

Can be customized if the post reach the first stretch goal ;)

What an amazing job you did there!
It looks so cute I want to grab it's little belly and tickle it! Yes! You should definitely make more!
The world allways needs more kitties!

I like him so maybe will do more if the time allows me.

My family are very excited about this one!!!!!
Nice work.

Thanks you. I am happy you took part in my little contest. Imagine how excited they will be if you win! ;) Good luck in the draw. Thanks for introducing this little guy to your followers.

I've been looking for pointers on a good starter 3D printer. I have pretty limited experience with autoCAD type software, so I don't want to spend a buttload up front. Any recommendations?

It depends on what you are planning to print, the size of your typical objects. There is so many models and few things to consider. The prices dropped so there are few models you can get on the budget.

I'd say to start I'm going to want to stick to pretty small items since I'm going to have to start with uber basic stuff (i.e. how to create and combine shapes like cubes and spheres). I don't know that it's something I will want to pursue longterm as I may not enjoy it, so I'm definitely trying to consider the most cost-effective options without buying something that will break after 2 weeks of use.

If you need to learn basic CAD you don't need to print it and pay for electricity and plastic ;) check the gearbest.com 3d printers section, they probably have the lowest prices. I see for 150euro you can buy good reprap style printer.

Awesome, thanks for the help!!

Hi
I hope you do very well with this promotion. It deserves the attention.
I wonder if you are aware of the recent appeal for Slothicorn sculptures, perhaps you are interested?. This is a steemit creative commons initiative currently under way.
It isn't my project, but I'm a fan of it, and being creative commons, everyone is invited to play.
https://steemit.com/slothicorn/@stellabelle/slothicorn-call-for-artists-and-burning-man-is-in-the-works-plus-ddp

Yes, it worked much better than I expected. My absolute record number of views 333!
I see the design, is it final version? It looks very simple to make. Must read more about him.

This is amazing. Im so exited to see who wins this cute little critter!

Thanks. I am curious too. I need to start typing names on the list.

Kitty's!

I was trying to refill my VP but I saw this xD hopefully I am getting 4 tickets yay!

hehe, Thanks for doing that :) Your name is in the hat multiple times, good luck in the draw!

I turned out amazing! That's a lot of work, sanding it down. I would have picked a blue color filament , but the finish wouldn't be as nice. Great cryptokity!

Yes, blue would be better. I wasnt sure what color I will paint it in the end and orange looks better than white on photography on white background.

Why would you feel the public might not like the giveaway idea, to me its a great idea, and its nice you are doing this. I sure tell my followers about this. Keep up the good work.

@mitchhunter good post

Nice Thing, Continue with that what you want :)

Thank you, thats the plan ;)

Great information I like your post thanks for sharing

This is incredible. This has to be my favorite steem post I've EVER seen.

Thank you, you are very kind :)
