Block chain Tech Extends to South Indian State of Kerala in Food Supply and Distribution Division

Local news outlet Business standard, reported that Kerala government - southern state of India is planning to use block chain for food supply and distribution.

The Kerala think-tank the Development and Innovation Strategic Council (K-DISC) is leading the new project. To make the state's supply network for dairy products, fish and vegetables more efficient, K-DISC will use Internet of Things(IoT) as well as block chain.

K.M.Abraham,Chairman of K-DISC, shared his thoughts through Business Standard. His innovative idea of each product with separate id number can reveal its source, quality, production and distribution. In a single click, these all can be monitored on a block chain.

As the report says, Block chain will be used by the crop insurance scheme of the state ensuring the tamper-proof, efficient processing and claim settlements for farmers suffering crop loses. The reason for crop loss can be judged (natural/other factors) by ineradicable data. The antagonism between beneficiaries and insurance firms can be eliminated by the technology vanishing the third parties." The well known elephantine retailer in U.S. Walmart clubbed with IBM to use block chain in their new live food venture. The company developed a system with minimalising food waste, improving contamination management and transparency.

In last week, by unveiling a new partnership, Microsoft develop its own block chain -based product tracking platform to secure traceability and visibility across the supply chain.

Also last week, similarly to K-DISC, the Rotterdam Port Authority revealed that it was co-developing its own block chain system using tags. This helps immediate screening into the conditions of incoming cargo.
