The official launch of a single token-carrying spaceship is expected to take place in 2020.
In a press release, SpaceX said the voyage would be identical to one it had undertaken in 2018, when the firm flew a Falcon 9 rocket into orbit with a cargo of supplies for the International Space Station. This time around, however, it wants to launch its Dragon 2 Rocket with a payload that contains not only cargo but also cryptocurrencies.
In specifically, SpaceX will be launching 20 million Dogecoin tokens (DOGE) into orbit. The business is dubbing this the world's first space-borne cryptocurrency.
The DOGE tokens constitute a component of what is known as the DogeCoin The network (DGCN). Created by Jackson Palmer and Billy Markus in 2013, DGCN has seen popularity expand over time because to its relationship with cryptocurrencies. The cryptocurrency became an online phenomenon after being accepted as an unofficial payment for members of Reddit's /r/dogecoin forum after Palmer's original post about it on April Fool's Day 2013.
