Crocoite: Red Lead Mine. Dundas, Tasmania, Australia. Personal Collection

Crocoite is a rare, bright orange mineral consisting of lead chromate. Its name is derived from the Greek word for saffron, alluding to the color and habit of saffron threads which very much resemble this mineral. With its beautiful deep orange-red color, Crocoite is a mineral that intrigues collectors and happens to be one of my favorites.
