How many crytocurrencies are existing?

CoinMarketCap, a leading Cryptocurrency monitoring site, currently lists 1,622 different coins and tokens. Bare in mind though, that most of them are actually tokens which are using the infrastructure of one main Cryptocurrecny, like Ethereum.
