The Bolognese sauce (in Italian ragù bolognese pronounced: [raɡu bboloɲɲeːze] or ragù alla bolognese) is a well-known sauce from the Bologna region. It is mainly cooked with tomato coulis, onion and beef. It is internationally known as an accompaniment to spaghetti, which however does not correspond to the tradition of the Bolognese region, where it is mainly used to garnish tagliatelle, lasagna, or polenta. image
