MATAMOROS CULT
The cult I am writing upon is most interesting and many may not be familiar with, however out of all of the cult material I have read over the years, this one seems to be the most interesting. The Matamoros Cult is linked to occultism, ritual murder and the spirituality known as Palo Mayombe. The cult was founded by Adolfo Constanzo.
The lure of wealth, power, influence and dominance in the drug world is what naturally recruited others to the Matamoros cult. After showing accuracy in prophesizing Reagan’s assassination, known for his psychic prowess, and gathering a magical following, Constanzo was notoriously known for ritual slayings, which his cult believed kept them invisible from law enforcement, and bulletproof.
The cult was noted for citing the movie, The Believers and most likely based some of their beliefs from the movie’s script.
Sara Aldrete, known as the godmother of the cult, and given the moniker, La Madrina by Constanzo was known for screening the movie to new recruits. The cult was also linked to the spirituality of Santeria, and Constanzo is reported to have pledged his life to his patron deity, Kadiempembe (the Devil) in his religion. Constanzo took lovers of both sexes, they became followers of his cult. As Constanzo’s magical reputation grew, so did his cult following and recruitment was easily had, even Federal Judical Police of Mexico, namely Florentino Ventura Guiterrez. Constanzo made a name for himself with the drug cartels, helping them to place shipments based on his predictions. Other well to do followers included real estate agents, fashion models, doctors, and nightclub performers.
The cult recruited members from their show of power and influence, especially the influence they had within law enforcement and drug cartels. Conformity and obedience was seen in the example of the slaying of one cult member after he disobeyed the ban on drug usage. Jorge Vilante’s killing was an example to other cult members not to disobey these regulations. The cult was also known to kill family members of cult members.
You would stay in this type of cult because of the ability to gain influence and power within your immediate circle. Because so many are in poverty induced situations, being a part of a cult such as this one would give you access to money and people whom you may have never encountered otherwise.
The transition of leaving the cult would be unlikely as most of the cults activities was shrouded in criminality, and secrecy. Once in, there’s no way out unless through death.
