Dowry Culture (South Asia)

in culture •  6 years ago

The culture of most of the South Asian nation is one of the most important things that should be given to the groom family to marry the women or the bride's family. This is a common culture. But this is still true in the 21st century.

There are many reasons behind this cultural practice. One of the biggest men here is more valuable than women. So the parents want dowry for the value they receive from the unpaid female parents. Otherwise, women will be left unmarried.

Marriage is as difficult, as obligatory, so there are no other options.
There is something else - women are less educated or uneducated. Therefore, their spouses and their families should live their lives. It's like moving another woman who doesn't win anything, so they demand dowry.

This culture is very unfair, wrong for society, but people still follow it. Because women get less property than the father's family. In this way, their families try to give gold ornaments and dowry.

There are many other issues. It is very difficult to get rid of this culture. Parents still believe in them, and women have to skip it because there are several alternatives. Otherwise, her husband and family must tolerate torture for the dowry. Due to non-payment of dowry, you will find many cases of abuse and divorce. So yes, you still have to pay the dowry to get married to women or the family of India.

Wow! amazing isn't it? The dowry culture of south asia -- India to be more specific.

The same thing applies here in Nigeria, we pay bride price with some other items added to the dowry which the bridegroom-to-be will have to buy.

In some places the marriage rite is very expensive which makes it difficult for their women to get married and in some cases the man will have to get a loan in other to fulfill the financial aspect of the marriage rite.
