Since hundred years ago, Sumba women have been adept to make Ikat fabric hereditarily. In their culture, Ikat has very important position. In addition of being daily clothes, Ikat has also become an important property in Sumba traditional ceremonies and also used as a medium of exchange commerce or payment of the fine.
Diverse motifs or patterns on Sumba ikat has cultural value, taste and high art of sacred elements that tie in with the creator. Similarly, in terms of coloration derived from the roots up to tree bark indigofera and Morinda. To generate a nice color it takes at least a few times the process of dyeing. All of which are traditional*ly processed and naturally It took months to make a beautiful ikat.
