Useful Fruit Waste

   Bananas are one of the most consumed fruit in the world. In 2012 the volume of global gross banana exports reached a record high of 16.5 million metric tons (3.6 × 10 ¹° lb).
   Once the peel is removed the fruit can be eating raw or cooked. However, most people today give little or no interest on banana peels, which in there homes ends up in the waste bin.
    Banana peels are sometimes used as feedstock for cattle, goats, pigs, monkeys etc, in regions were bananas are grown, India as an example. The peels though bitter in taste can be nutritional. 
   Green banana peels contain about 15% starch, while ripe banana peels contain up to 30% free sugar.

  Furthermore, banana peels can be used for water purification. Researchers have found that minced banana peel could quickly remove lead and copper from river water.
    Note: These fruit waste are very attractive as water purifiers because of there low cost and they don't have to be chemically modified in order to work.

    So, next time you peel these delicious fruit keep in mind how relevant those peels are, appreciate them, they might be the reason you get to drink a sweet-clean treated water in homes.
