Fruits For The Winter -The Sweet "KOMPOT"

The sweet "KOMPOT" Oh wait, wait. What is kompot? Kompot is fresh fruits stored in jars. It can be any fruits,strawberries, peaches, plums, apples, black berries etc. My mom in law made a lot last summer and she kept in the garage. Living in a cold country like Bulgaria is not easy in the winter. They store fruits, vegetables in jars for the winter time, just in case they couldn't get out for days when there's a heavy snow.

Summer is the best time to go and visit the beautiful Bulgaria. A lot of fresh veggies in the supermarket and it's very affordable. My mom in law has a garden full of vegetables and fruits during the summer. Sometimes, we don't even have to buy because she got almost everything and the herbs mmmmmm they are amazing!!!

Dried fruits. Boil it and add sugar or honey

Anyway, back to kompot. There are different ways to make kompot. One is in the jar. She filled it with any fruits, add water and a bit sugar. Then sealed the jar. After that she would boiled the jar in a giant pan to keep the kompot, to preserve it longer. And you have fresh fruits juices in the whole winter. It's not only 1-2 jars she made lots of them!

The other type of kompot is just like a tea, boil the fruits and eat it right away. This is sweet kompot fresh peaches. They usually serve this special kompot on New years day.

This is a rose buds tea. You'll find them in the bushes everywhere. I like this one too. You can also mix all kind of dried fruits with the rose buds. I love homemade tea and this is the best tea ever. Rose buds with quince pear is a good combination. You can boil it over and over again, just add water and honey for the taste.
