Papuan Dani tribe first known its existence in the Baliem Valley about hundreds of years ago. Many explorations in the upland plateau of Papua are conducted. One of the first was the Lorentz Expedition in 1909-1910 (The Netherlands). Then the American investigator Richard Archold was a member of his team who first made contact with the Dani tribe in 1935. It was later also known that the Dani residents were skilled farmers with stone axes, scrapers, knives made of animal bones , bamboo or wooden spears and dug sticks.
