Culture Vulture

The tag #culturevulture is a place where you can share something unique about your country with the world. Instead of being a tag about travel or tourism this tag is more about sharing local experiences. Let's get inside the hearts and souls of the Steemit Community!

More info about this months challenge can be found at Culture Vulture - January Challenge.
There is still time to enter this month and be in with a chance to get a share of the guaranteed 115 USD (paid in Steem)

Recommendations

In this post I call out some of the great entries from the past week (you can still vote on these). They all stand out to me and really capture the spirit and the vision of the Challenge. This is just a small selection but for more you can check out the #culturevulture tag or for a complete list you can check out SteemChallenges.

Festivals

Festivals are great to experience when you travel because they usually showcase the best local speciality foods, music, art as well as being great fun and a time for holidays.

@agustiarismail shares with us a very colourful parade in Indonesia.

Customs & Traditions

Traditions passed down from generation to generation may have a symbolic meaning or cultural significance; clothes, dress, food, holidays, family gatherings, pass-times. Traditions and customs are bound tightly to our cultural identity and may not always be the easiest for outsiders to grasp.

@deniandepa shares with us an event that unites two cultures and traditions in Banda Aceh.

I really likes this post by @cisah which describes some of the history of an ancient port city in Sumatra.

@rahmadantara provides a wonderful detailed visit to a salt farm in Aceh. The photograph really makes this post stand out.

Food

In some respects nothing expresses a culture more than its food. The climate, culture, religion, the family structure and even way of life are all represented. When we travel or live overseas nothing brings you home like the taste or aroma of a dish from your childhood.

@maulida shares a delicacy from the Aceh region which unfortunately is being forgotten by millennial's.

@rahmadantara takes us up a few trees in Aceh where the craftsmen retrieve Nira water from the Palm Trees. Again great photography as always

This post by @sumi teaches us about the tea tradition in Japan and how its taught in schools.

Art

"#culturevulture" considers art as a physical expression of creativity. It takes many forms from the visual to performance arts. Art can change the temperature of a room, it inspires, it heals unites and can divide people. Art often provides a focal point to a celebration. Like food, art is a rich expression of our culture.

@rahmadantara's posts this month have definately shone. Great photography but also great descriptions. This post shows some of the Gem Art from Aceh and the craftsmen at work to fashion it into beautiful Jewellery.

Thank you so much for this comment. Your so right, this will be available here for ever more. The idea here started out when I was writing about travel experiences I had in the past. Hey man! Glad to see you're still growing your culturevulture tag!

Remember how I was going to Ireland a long time ago and you had given me some tips and suggestions for places to go? Well, I was planning to do a whole bunch of posts about the trip, but ended up taking a fairly long hiatus from Steemit instead haha. Anyways, I finally got back into it, and I was planning to do a series of posts about my favorite 10 places we visited during the trip. I did an overview and video of the trip here, but was going to get more specific with these. (It was an awesome trip btw!)

I'd consider tagging them culturevulture, but are you looking for content only from one's own country, or is it kosher to post about your experiences of other cultures as well?

Cheers!

I just checked out your video and resteemed it, it's fantastic. It looks like you and your mum had a great time. I want to get me one of those drones. The look like so much fun. I guess you need lots of time for the editing but you get amazing shots.

Your posts would definitely be suitable for the #culturevulture tag if they are about experiences, I think they would do very well. It looks like you will have a lot of places to revisit. I love that aspect of writing here about experiences, you get to relive them over and over again.

Awesome, thank you sooo much for the resteem! Yeah, the drone footage is tough to beat, that's for sure. It can make even the most mundane things look awesome. Then throw the beauty of Ireland on top of that, and it's amazing. The editing does take some patience though, and I'm not that even skilled or artistic with it.

I'll be sure to tag my upcoming posts with #culturevulture, thanks! Having the chance to relive it all is also a big motivation for wanting to do it too - you're absolutely right about that one!

well done dear! that beneficial to me!
thanks for sharing culturevuluture with us!
