Steem power mechanism really motives people to develop or invest themselves and in the long run to get rewarded by other users' votes. It increases their follower and readers because they may vote or comment to get some upvotes from high reputations users.

Downvoting a post can decrease pending rewards and make it less visible. Common reasons:
