February 28th-- Steemit Ramble #145 -- Curating Great Posts for You

in curation •  7 years ago

Great spring like weather sure does give a feeling like the world is coming back alive after the deep freezes of December into January. It’s unlikely we’ve seen the end of winter for this year but the break from it is sure nice. Once again, my grass is free of snow, for now.

This morning I finished and posted a post about how I go about curating for the Steemit Ramble and I made an announcement for those who take the time to nominate quality posts. If you haven’t seen, hop on over and have a peak.

If you haven’t seen @dreemsteem’s posts this week, you should also hop over and have a look at hers. The Treasure Hunt she started last Thursday evening Pimp Your Post Thursday is going to continue on a regular basis. She’s been posting the ports to find the treasure at this week and the race will be on Thursday evening on PYPT. So, you have time to catch up and take part.

Onward to today’s rambling

Steemit In Bloomberg: Starting To Near The Mainstream

When the price of STEEM gets volatile people often get a bit nervous about the future of the platform. It’s sort of a sky is falling mentality. Or, it gives people reasons to write posts. Who knows.

If you’re getting a bit uneasy, you will be interested to see @taskmaster4450’s post taking note that Bloomberg news has notice and written about the platform.

Tags of Broken Dreams :: A Curation Observation

@negativer reflects on the struggles of curators when they see good posts getting small rewards and subpar posts getting larger ones. It’s as frustrating for curators as it is for the authors who are struggling.

Art Prompt Writing Contest #9 Results

@gmuxx announces the winners of his art prompt writing contest. This is a neat contest that he runs. It reminds me of the writing exercises we used to do in school where we’d select a picture to write a story about. Congrats to all the winners.

FCK Cancer! COME ON STEEMIT! Don't Let Facebook WIN!

This post was nominated by @crazybgadventure who said: “I would like to nominate the below post, these people are raising money for leukemia, they have a target to reach $2500 ASD”

It can’t be easy to take the shears to five years of hair growth. For cancer patients who have lost their hair due to chemo treatments, that hair is precious. Give some support to @insideoutlet’s campaign to raise funds to fight cancer. That $2500ASD is only about $400 SBD.

My Near Death Experience

This post was nominated by @crazybgadventure who said: “I would like to nominate this post for consideration in pypt please, its only one part of the story but @arbitarykitten had a near death experience recently, whilst driving and was involved in an accident in a tunnel, the post is very well written and I believe it deserves some attention.”

This is a very well written first-hand account by @arbitrarykitten of an horrific accident and the aftermath. You’ll want to read the next two parts of it as well.

Understanding Sleep: Why You Should Always Have Enough Sleep

This post was nominated by @davidekpin who says: “I learnt a lot about sleep from this post and think it can teach others something too. Its detailed in every way possible and is a very long read but it was worth it for someone like me who has problems sleeping.”

@joeycrack has written a very detailed post about sleep, its importance to our health and the mechanics of sleep. Anyone who has caught the Steemit addiction knows what lack of sleep does to us. Long read but worthwhile.

Book Around You #2 - Curation of Book Posts

@steemitbooks has embarked on an interesting curation project. Writing about those who post about books. Anyone who is a reader will want to follow these curation posts for ideas about what book to read next. This one caught my attention as @nobyeni was curated for her review of the “Yellow Wallpaper” the first book the @thewritersblock’s Book Club read in February.

Don't tell me which witness to vote for. Show me.

You can never learn too much about witnesses. Every member has 30 witness votes to give to deserving witnesses but you don’t want to give them out like candy. @dreemsteem knows this and has set out to learn more about witnesses and how they are contributing to the platform before trusting them with her vote. Check out her current exploration.

We-All-Write Contest~ Reminder!

There are some creative contests being put on by members of the platform. This one is a collaborative story building contest. Interesting approach by @snook. Check it out.

My Brother's Keeper

One of the most painful tasks we can undertake is to try to love and support a member of the family struggling to love and support their self. @jonknight writes about his most recent round with his brother and the painful realization that his brother isn’t yet ready to help himself even with the support and love offered to him.

The Most Lovely Gang

Irresponsible pet ownership either through direct abuse, lack of attention to the pet and not spaying or neutering leads to overflowing animal shelters and rescues.

@firedream shares this delightful post about the approach taken in his part of the world. Strays are picked up by the municipality tagged, vaccinated and neutered before being released back to where they were found. Members of the community take it as a responsibility to treat the animals kindly and bring them food.

Join the Curation Trail

If you’d like to be part of supporting the posts that I curate, you can join my curation trail. What that means is if you are part of the trail, when I vote on a quality post, your votes will automatically follow me. The trail name is PathtoSuccess which is another of my accounts and the one where I read most of the posts shared here.

You’ll need to sign up at SteemAutoand I’d recommend you use SteemConnect when asked to give voting rights. That makes sure your keys are safe.

Once registered, the link to the curation trail is right here. You can set the percentage of vote you wish to use in the settings once you join the trail.

Nominate Your Favourite Post

With all the chaff that I end up trying to sift through each time I sit down to do the Steemit Ramble, I think it is time to give you dear reader an opportunity to nominate your favourite reads.

Just visit the Steemit Ramble Discord and post the link in the Nominate-A-Post Channel.

steemit ramble

As much as you may love your own post, I am really looking for someone else to say, “Hey, I like this post, have a look”. When I post a Steemit Ramble, that is what I’m telling my readers.

Pimp Your Post Thursday

Don’t forget, Pimp Your Post Thursday takes place every Thursday at 11am and 7:00pm EST. Come and join the fun.

Love the information and links. I am new to this platform and posts like this one certainly help to educate and connect.

thank you @heartjourney and welcome to the platform. There is a lot to learn but it's worth the learning curve. Drop into the Steemit Ramble discord and look around. If you check out some of the posts in the Curation channel and look at the curated posts, you will start to get a feel for what is good content on the platform.

If you are not using Discord, do yourself a favour and start. Great communities over there.

Thank you for the read and the mention in your post (and for drawing my attention to a couple other posts you mentioned here that I hadn't seen but turned out to be good reads as well). Always good work you do here :)

Awesome @negativer. I love it when people find posts they wouldn't otherwise found.

Up up and shared!

An amazing compilation. Well done!

Thank you for including my Near Death Experience. This series is very difficult to write about, but also healing <3

you're welcome @arbitrarykitten. You wrote it with great feeling and clarity. I'm glad that you're okay at least physically. The mind will heal eventually.
