The seabed of the Mexican peninsula of Yucatan continues to offer us wonderful treasures.
The world's largest underwater cave in the Yucatan Peninsula (Mexico), which is 347 kilometers long, has recently been discovered. The discovery was made by the Gran Acuifero Maya research unit and is said to be one of the most important archaeological discoveries of the century.
The cave is formed by two underwater caverns that are connected: Sac Actun and Dos Ojos. As Sac Actun is larger than "Dos Ojos" the newly discovered cave, it will now be called Sac Antun. Sac Actun is not the only large subacute cave system near Tulum. There are three other cave systems. So, the next exploration challenge will be to find the connection between Sac Actun and the other three systems.

This huge underwater tunnel is also a significant archaeological finding, Guillermo Anda, a researcher at the National Institute of Anthropology and History of Mexico and director of the Gran Acuífero Maya research group, said in a statement.
Underwater archaeologist Guillermo de Anda, of the National Institute of Anthropology and History of Mexico, affirms that this immense cave represents the most important submerged archaeological site in the world with more than a hundred archaeological contexts: the first settlers of America, extinct fauna and culture Maya.
