Have you ever seen non-English posts on the trending page? You may haven't. While many of Steemians are English speakers, there are many users using other languages, and they are still struggling here. As a Korean community member and supporter(tag: kr), I have been facing some serious problems and wanted to resolve it. Now, thanks to the Project Curie, I have a decent solution, and am going to briefly explain about it in the present post.
Situations and Problems
Currently, the Korean community members have about 1,700 mVESTS in total. With this amount, we can give approximately $5~10 rewards to each post. If we vote for 40 posts a day, we can give about $200~400 to our community members, which seems a good number. However, the problem is that $10 is too small to incentivize professional writers or at least semi-professionals. (They probably expect $30~50 on average) An alternative way is dividing a post into four and post them separately. In this way, they can get $20~40, but writers will lose a control on the length of posts. Anyway, good writers are less incentivized to write posts on Steemit in Korean. And the result maybe many low-quality posts with small rewards. I will call this problem as 5 x 40 (Five dollars each for fourty posts) In my opinion, other sub-communities are experiencing the same problem.
- Community can provide $5~10 per post / $200~400 daily
- Writers expect $30~50 per post
- Good writers do not want to post
- Low-quality posts will dominate the community (5 x 40 problem)
Curie Helps
But what happens if we participate to Curie with donating our voting power? Here's the interesting thing.
The Korean community elects curators who can use Curie's voting power pool. They can choose good articles, say 5~10 posts daily that in sum $200~400(be advised that the amount is the same as aforementioned). We are now able to concentrate our voting power into fewer good-quality posts. 5 x 40 will be reversed to 40 x 5 (Fourty dollars each for five posts)
- Curie enables sub-communities to concentrate their voting power to fewer good posts (40 x 5)
Stay Tuned
The Korean community just elected two curators ( @morning and @yoonjang0707 ). They are experienced contents creators (e.g. one of the curators is a high-ranked blogger in Korean blogging platform) and we expect they will do great jobs in curation. We may need to calibrate practical manners with the Curie team. After things are settled down, we will start to attract more authors with quality. Please stay tuned on us!
