“Just be yourself. Life is too short to be someone else.” Anonymous

I’ve never been afraid to voice my opinion and make unpopular choices that don’t necessarily go in line with the typical standards that society pushes on us. Just the fact that I never want kids nor a driver license makes it enough for me to feel like I’m allergic to the conditionings of our modern world. Ever since I quit the online world, I’ve been able to see so much more clarity, not to mention that I’ve had way more time to invest in developing myself.

The fact is that you become what you consume. And it goes without saying that if you consume a lot of media stuff on a day to day basis, chances are that you may get stuck in the trap of delusion that this big vast online world entails. It’s difficult to be self-aware while browsing through platforms that portray nothing but the superficial. The comparison is only there if you let it be that way. But then how can you develop self-awareness if you’re not even aware in the first place that the online world makes you lose touch with yourself? I find it interesting that we call these platforms social media as to me they are nothing but antisocial. They make us lose touch with ourselves on top of reinforcing the It’s-all-about-me epidemic. It’s all a big pretending game.

Simply put, we have become slaves to a world that isn’t real. I will never stress it enough, but disconnecting from the online world is the best way to slowly reconnect with yourself.
Stepping outside the norm has never been something I’ve been afraid of doing because death. Let me explain here. This is your life, and no one cares as much as you do to your dreams, your goals, you name it. Why would you waste it to try being someone you’re not? Or to try fitting in the boxes that you’ve been told are the only way to be? Life goes by in a flash, and the worst thing you could to to yourself would be to step away from being your authentic self just because you’re scared of what others may think or because it’s not the way you’ve been brought up to think it should be. I’ve got news for you my friend: what others think of you is none of your business! It may sound silly, but it really isn’t! This is your life, and nobody else’s.

In order to find your own voice, you ought to step away from the crowd, go deep within yourself and work at it every day. Finding your own voice is one part of the equation, the second part lies in not being afraid to put it out there, even when you feel like you might eat shit for it. I’d rather eat shit for remaining faithful to my values, than not eat any because I’m conforming to something that I don’t believe in.
