Pygmy Monkey (Pocket Monkey)

in curiosities •  2 years ago

The pygmy monkey lives in the Amazon basin and Madagascar, measures 12 cm on average and weighs a maximum of 100 g. This is called "pocket monkey" or "finger monkey". It easily adapts to climate changes and is considered one of the oldest living creatures in America.

Like its "bigger" relatives, it lives in small groups, feeding on insects, berries and tree bark. They are very territorial, they can jump up to 4 m in length, and as a form of defense, they throw feces at predators.

They are considered very coveted exotic pets, but, unfortunately, they adapt quite hard to humans, the vast majority of them suffering from depression once removed from their natural environment and the group, depressions that can be fatal for them in some cases.
