My big challenge is ...
I’m interested in too many things. Always have been.
While it’s a blessing, to never be bored, whether in the company of artists or the elderly, science nerds or wild birds, being so chronically curious can be exhausting and frustrating.
My fiancee has built a good career, doing what she loves. Thanks to needle sharp focus, she infuses peoples skin with permanent beauty and significance as a tattoo artist.
A friend from highschool, who never once put down his guitar, now plays stadiums for thousands of screaming and paying customers per night when on tour.
Photographers, DJ’s, Psychologists, I see them rise to greatness.
“Follow your dreams” has proved ineffective wisdom for me, as I dream every night of a new future I could craft
I could be a tattoo artist and tour the world with my lady, dedicate my life to electric needles and ink,
I could take an amp to the streets and freestyle rap about strangers for the heavy $5 bills weighing their wallet down,
I could get a real fucking job,
I could host a podcast,
I could write books
I could become the ULTIMATE BEAST MASTER.
If ever you said a sentence like “I want to be a ____ when I grow up”
I there’s probably a 75% chance that at some point in my life I dedicated some serious attention to with filling the blank the same way as you.
Entymologist, rock star, psychonaut, king, traveling vagabond and on and on.
Bugs pinned to cardboard, a dozen instruments, a dream diary, a noble deed of lordship and a two month hitch hiking adventure, and so it goes.
Obviously not expert at any of these things .
Maybe this is the answer to my identity crisis. Maybe expert curiosity is the running theme, and almost certainly, there’s no right way to pursue fractal curiosity in a linear fashion.
The branches and vines of material and thought that dynamically connect disparate, and diverse disciplines might be this monkey’s home tree.
What is your big challenge?
How has curiosity challenged you?
What sacrifices have you made to support the pursuit of something else?
