Unfortunately, that is how socialized medicine works. Charlie Gard does have what is considered an irreparable mitochondrial defect. Though, there is a treatment available here in the States that could have given him an 11-56% chance of survival. The court has dragged its feet so that poor young Charlie's lastest scans, as they say, have shown that he has passed the point of assistsnce.
Socialized medicine focuses on what is in the best interest of the government, not the patient in this case.
