Among many other things that caused the suffering of in our developing countries is our attitude towards the creativity and productions of our fateful young talents. We deliberately caused our Nigerian made products to face the wrath of our guilty conscience that we can't produce anything qualitative.

We think that anything which is processed or manufactured here in Nigerian industries is fake or substandard. For example, it is obvious that when we are to buy something and we curiously realized that the label on the product is "Made in Nigeria" we quickly rise suspicion index against the product. So by just labelling your product "Made in Nigeria" is synonymous to fake or substandard and you will definitely face the wrath of self-hating customers. This our mentality has forced many indigenous small and large scale industries and businesses to shut down. But for what? Because we pitifully believed that we can not produce anything of good quality.

Consequently, if you have produced something and you want to sell like hot cakes, even it is Nigerian made, processed or manufactured in Kano or Lagos, just label it "Made in China" for instance. Even China? The China that become almost synonymous to anything fake or substandard? Yes! Because, Africans are suffering from "Foreign Brand Syndrome" which is the satisfaction we have with the imported products. We believed anything imported is superior to Nigerian made. Going by this, anything made by someone in back Africa is inferior to anything made somewhere other than the black Africa even it has the same quality as one made in our countries.

Again, if you never commit an offence and you want to be arrested and arraigned for breech of wisdom just "invent" something, like a radio set, TV set or broadcasting station or an aeroplane in the black nations. The next thing to see is police force heavily armed and ever ready to arrest the "traitor" who stole and smuggled the knowledge of invention from the White, we believed that wisdom is from the white. Once you see invention and creativity with black is an act of stealing. So in Africa if you invent, you steal, because invention is none of your business, because who are you? you're black! Wow! This blackness has diffused to even our brain.

The Chinese also face this at home, especially when it comes to dairy products.

The marketing term "imported" has been etched in everyone's brain as meaning "superior" which is hardly the case. All it means is that someone paid a lot of money to ship it from a foreign country, which is why it is more expensive....

Of course, this mentality is killing our products in the local market.
