Ulog No. 07 "Night Market on my bicycle"

in cyclefeed •  7 years ago  (edited)

My bike likes to pose for photos! Tonight my S.O. (significant other, favorite guy, boyfriend, partner...) and I spontaneously decided to go for a bike ride.

He remembered the night market was going on and we headed downtown to check it out. On Tuesday evenings during our summer months, a city park space called The Commons hosts Mill City Night Market. It includes live music and a variety of vendors: food, beverages, flowers, maple syrup, produce... typical Minneapolis market vendors.

He had dinner picnic style in the grass and we took in the scene. I had already eaten leftovers from lunch with a friend. Still, I couldn't resist tasting this fresh-looking meal made with local ingredients. Tasty!

This is my entry for the #dailyfoodphotography contest, founded by @howtostartablog and curated by @mininthecity

Searching for a cold beverage, I recognized this vendor from previous markets around the city. He typically sells his shrub on ice, mixed with tonic water. Tonight he wasn't able to because the compostable cups had melted in the sun. This surprised me! Has anyone heard of that happening? Thankfully, I was able to taste small samples of his seasonal flavors. Ginger beet was my favorite.

Laser-focused on refreshments, I didn't pause to photograph the colorful produce or flowers. This tea vendor is one I haven't noticed before. They collect local plants for all of their ingredients. The iced tea sample was full of flavors of the earth. I would have loved a full-size cup to sip on. I'll look for this tea again once I get settled into the place I'm moving to. Making loose leaf tea is a relaxing ritual that reminds me to slow down and savor the moment.

Connect four! When children weren't playing we took a turn with this lawn-sized version of a classic game. We started with "friendly competition" attitudes, thinking there would be a winner with bragging rights at the end of a round. Unfortunately it wasn't well made and the bottom kept shifting so that our game pieces fell to the ground. It was worth the brief amusement to play together.

Satisfied and happy, we took a wandering route home. We paused at the top of the iconic Sabo Bridge to enjoy a lovely sunset. This photo doesn't capture it's vibrance or my feeling of appreciation for the moment. (The Sabo is a pedestrian bridge across a busy four lane highway. I took this photo before riding to the top. The painted lines are bike lanes). We arrived home feeling content and ready to relax... Good feels.

Until my next ulog... ride on, steem on, and blog about it :)

great post..
nice photos,, esp the food.. delicious !

Thank you! There are so many flavor combinations to taste at the markets :)

I enjoyed your whole post 😇
I'm also surprised that cup was melting.
And which game is this ?

Thanks very much! I know that game as "Connect Four"

Since I was a young child, there have been small table top versions. To win, you arrange four of your game pieces in a row before your opponent: vertical, diagonal, or horizontal. Here is the wikipedia link if you are curious: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Connect_Four

Connect Four
Connect Four (also known as Captain's Mistress, Four Up, Plot Four, Find Four, Four in a Row, Four in a Line and Gravitrips (in Soviet Union)) is a two-player connection game in which the players first choose a color and then take turns dropping one colored disc from the top into a seven-column, six-row vertically suspended grid. The pieces fall straight down, occupying the next available space within the column. The objective of the game is to be the first to form a horizontal, vertical, or diagonal line of four of one's own discs. Connect Four is a solved game.

A melting cup? That sounds like an awesome weekly event. We have some cool stuff like that here during the summer as well. I just don't care for the ones that get really crowded. I would want more than a sample of that tea too.

Agreed. I don't care for crowds, especially in high heat. This week I didn't feel crowded at all. I'd love to experience New York (both the state and city) including street markets.

You and your S.O. have a place to stay here if you ever want to make the trip.

Thank you! Wow, what a generous offer! It's on my list of financial goals. Are there good rental bikes available? I would want to be able to go on an epic ride on a decent bike without having to bring mine. Even if the trip may realistically be far off, I like to visualize :)

Well, Campus Wheelworks rents good bikes, but they're expensive, and not touring bikes really.
