[vlog #17] 3 Fun and Useful Apps for Cycling / Bike Vlogging

in cyclefeed •  6 years ago  (edited)

Hooray Readers! Bringing yet another fun and crazy video to the community - Mr.P on Video!

Hello, hello Steemians, dTubers and any other Monsters out there! Coming up with yet another fun bicycle video for you. This time I'd like to talk about some applications I always run on my phone when I'm out cycling.

Having our cellphones running applications while we cycle/run can be a powerful tool to measure our performance, compare results, have fun, use gps or even record our voice for our vLogs. Some of these tools are regular apps ; but some, like Actifit, represent an innovative idea running over the Steem blockchain to encourage people into exercising more. I'll talk to you on the video and show the apps I use. Enjoy!

Video Summary

There are many reasons to run some useful applications while cycling, specially if you like to vLog. Our cellphones are powerful tools that serve multiple purposes, from making simple calls to recording all the data from our exercise routine. Sometimes I use it to record voice audio for vLogs - a proccess that I have already shown you.

For those adept to competition, Strava and Actifit may be great options to record your exercise data so you can overcome yourself or compare your results with your friends. Here goes an small overview.

Strava

The Strava measures and creates a history of the user's pedals, collecting information such as: distance, accumulated altitude, maximum and average speed, heart rate, route mapping, among others. For this, the user needs to have a Cyclocomputer with GPS or a cell phone with Android or iOS system.

If you have a competitive mind this app may become a bit of an addiction, because the user can leave his or her history public. The system creates a worldwide ranking of this data, divided into what they call segments. All this public data creates a huge competition amongst the users, which is very addicting.

I personally don't compare my stats with other people, rather I use Strava to record my rides to plan my bicycle maintenance.

Actifit

Actifit is a dapp (descentralized application) that aims to create an SMT on top of the Steem blockchain to allow proper reward based on "Proof of Activity" for its users. This would require the users to provide proof of their physical fitness activity, and reward them accordingly.

In basic terms, Actifit will count your 'steps', for that reason, as far as your phone is moving, it'll count. No matter if you are walking, jogging or cycling. In my case I usually strap the cell phone to my leg and let it there while pedaling.

Once you are finished with your activity you'll have the option to post it on Steemit, directly from the app, grannting you some rewards in form of an upvote and Actifit tokens. Keep in mind that to be rewarded, you'll need an Steemit account.

This app is a lot of fun because it also promotes a healthy competition to enter the top 10 for the day, and I'm sure it'll be a serious competitors once they start releasing other functions such as GPS or when the tokens are listed to trade.

RecForge II

RecForge II has nothing to do with exercising or cycling, but it doesn't mean it's less useful if you plan to record your voice while cycling.

RecForge II is capable of generating recordings in several formats such as MP3, WAV, OGG, WMA, FLAC and OPUS. In addition, quality can be tweaked by you, such as the frequency or the quality in Kbps, in case you use an MP3 audio option, for example. You can customize what will be captured in mono or stereo formats, as well as determining that the phone is "on" throughout the recording process. RecForge II also lets you lower the gain, making the capture more objectively.

What I like about this voice recorder is that it lets you record for an unlimited amount of time on its free version, which is great.

Hooorray! Pois é, eu já tentei traduzir como o Juliano faz, mas a carga horária é absurda, acabei desistindo.

Só esperando a hora que o Brasil descobrir a blockchain e inundar aqui igual no facebook, aí da pra postar só em Português.

Strava is awesome! I often use it when biking or backpacking. Hopefully one day actifit will have to option to record gps info. Great video and I wish you the best of luck getting to steemfest!

Ohhhhh yeah, Actifit with gps and speed recording will be just amazing, I believe it will have soon. Until then we can use both, one for the gps and the other for fun.

Thanks for passing by Scott!

Indeed. Happy to see your post. Cheers!

Actifit sounds like a great idea.... will definitely encourage a healthier lifestyle whilst earning income. Let me know when the ICO is {grin}

Hoah, I don't know if they'll have ICOs. At the moment the tokens are being distributed in a lot of ways, it'll be and SMT once Steem SMTs are ready next year.
