10 Pictures in 5 Days in Turkmenistan

in cyclefeed •  6 years ago  (edited)

We rushed through Turkmenistan pretty quickly given the 5 days transit visa. Nonetheless, it was an interesting country to visit.

25.10.18 We packed up and loaded everything into Markus campervan. It was very nice to get a ride through the desert.

25.10.18 We packed… really packed!

25.10.18 The first attraction was in Ancient Merv, a historic Silk Road city. Most of the ancient buildings are in need of repair and there weren't any visitors when we were there.

26.10.18 Matt got the opportunity to glamp once again. Before we started the trip, he wanted a chair and everyone of our friend said "No"

26.10.18 It was too hot to cycle so we waited until 4pm and had ice cream while in the shade. The combination of heat and dryness makes Turkmenistan quite challenging to get through.

27.10.18 It was hot cycling through the desert. We were lucky to find small shops every 10-20 km to get a cold drink. We always wondered how the people can live in such conditions.

27.10.18 One hour later the tailwind pushed us into Sarahs. The storm got worse with only 50 metres visibility so we decided to look for a guesthouse to stay.

28.10.18 Unfortunately the town is so small they had no guesthouse. Luckily we had a very kind local that opened his home to us.

28.10.18 We tried to give Sarahs a look around after the rain stopped, but the only interesting thing we saw were these green fruit. They aren't edible for us but the cattles can.

29.10.18 Vodka is a popular drink with the men, and usually accompanied with watermelon so you can save your mouth after drinking the poison. We try to say "chut chut" to request for a little but it never is!

Awesome, thank you.
Still getting the hang of Steem/Partiko. I accidentally posted twice because the first time didn't confirm. Also once posted there's no turning back 😂
