Ketogenic Cycle Training | Riding Fasted

in cycling •  6 years ago  (edited)

We took a 60 mile ride on the Katy Trail today as I spend more time looking at working to cycle tour while ketogenic. One of the keys for me has been controlling heart rate to ride while fasted and utilize fat adaptation. So far I've been successful and on this ride, I go about 43 miles cycle touring while fasted, stop for a nice lunch of Chicken and green beans (had to skip the mashed potatoes :D) and a few almonds before carrying on for another 17 miles or so and calling it a day.

I hope you enjoy this ride and a bit longer video today. It was great to incorporate the new bike mount, go pro, and drone into the ride.

With Gratitude,
Captain Bob

You feel younger than me captain.. Great video again :P

Thanks @kalvas! I don't know about feeling younger than you, hahaha, but I had a good ride and I'm learning over time how to ride those distances while staying on keto. I have some cycle touring coming up this fall, so trying to get prepared.

Wow man that was an epic video! Thanks for taking us on your journey! The drone footage was fantastic. That little hostile was great! how long is the Katy Trail? Have you done longer rides then this before? Also can you eat beef jerky on your diet? Keto right?

Technically, the Katy Trail is 237.7 miles and is the longest rail trail in the US. They have also now added an extension called the Rock Island Trail as a spur off of it that has added an additional 45.6 miles. We usually average about 50 miles or so per day and have done some multi-day tours with full gear (tent, food, cook kit, clothes, etc.). Our longest so far has been 250 miles or so on the Natchez Trace Parkway. As to beef jerky, sure I can eat it. I've even in the past made my own but certainly it's easier to just buy it :D

Oh wow that is awesome. So a rail trail is what a biking trail that runs near a railroad? haha sorry I am new to that term. That 250 mile adventure sounds pretty awesome!

Rail trails are old rail lines that are no longer used that are then converted to biking/hiking trails. There are many now around the US.

Ahh that is so cool! :) At some point I want to get a mountain bike. Lots of trails around here to ride on. I don't really have any interest in doing any crazy or extreme mountain biking, but just for the exercise and adventure of it.

I don't know how you ride and use that drone! Insane! I make the farmer drink pink salt water too.
I loved the town dog. How fun!

It takes practice to fly the drone and ride! I'm still learning a bit more on how to do it. Yeah that pink salt water is really pretty helpful on days were you are going through a lot of fluids. Yes, the town dog was very friendly and sat there with us the whole time, haha.

Great video man!
I always ride fasted in the morning, takes me like 50-60km of riding to get hungry haha
Your friend is one of those guys who like to carry the whole house on the bike ay?

Thanks man! Yeah my buddy and I like to sometimes carry lots of gear as we are preparing for longer tour coming up in the fall so we load on extra weight to get ready sometime. I have a support ride coming up in September in Kentucky that is all about bourbon ;D

That's great man, Keep the touring videos coming!

That's look nice @captainbob. I really enjoyed that. During ride you are impressive gadgets. Overall I love that

Thanks! I appreciate you watching and following along.

Hello @captainbob you are riding just like 20year old Young boy. I loved your journey. The longest ride I had in my life was 150 miles.. that’s really amazing feel. I hope you did enjoy a lot. God bless you captain. @mohansampath.

Thank you! Yes, my longest ride has been about 250 miles but I hope to do longer this year! Thanks for watching, subscribing, and commenting. I truly appreciate it.

Nice cycle tour, Captain. Enjoy summer day there!

Thank you!

Love it! I weight train and am also doing Keto. I find that I gas out probably an hour in every time if the intensity is high enough. More power to you for going full fasted! Cycle and Keto on my friend!

Thanks! Yeah I'm testing the waters a bit on these long tours and it's definitely related to managing my heart rate if I can. Thanks for watching and following along!

Wow very cool. Not sure I could ride 5 miles. 😁

Haha yeah interestingly that's how I started as well. Now my buddy and will ride 50 miles per day on long tours. Our longest so far now is 250 miles on the Natchez Trace but more to come!

Thanks for sharing! Appreciate following along on your journeys and adventures.

You bet. Glad you are enjoying it and following along!
