Land Slide Closes Road And Stops Tour de France In Its Tracks

The main reason for the stopping of the stage as the road is completely covered in rubble and mud from a land slide. Throw in a massive hail storm and it was just too dangerous to ride a bike let alone compete at high speeds. I have never seen this before and have been watching the Tour for the last 15 years or so and you can't plan for such events. The weather has played a major part so far and lets hope tomorrow it stays dry and safe for the riders.

Safety reasons cut the 19th stage of Tour de France short today and robbed us off a great finish. Ineos with Bernal and Thomas had made their much anticipated moves and had distanced themselves from Alaphilippe. They had him where they wanted him and I believe the time gaps today would have been huge. Even Roberto Uran was cursing as he saw the opportunity slip today of a possible podium position. He is over 5 minutes off the lead and could have closed the gap. This is how important this stage was as someone who is 5 minutes off the lead had ambitions of closing the gap significantly.

Team Ineos is different to most teams as they have some superstars and have more than one member who could win the race. It was clear the other day that Bernal was stronger than Thomas and it showed again today. Thomas has one job now and that is to make sure his team mate keeps the yellow jersey tomorrow.

The final stage will be a frantic one and maybe like a day race as anyone thinking of a podium place needs to do everything they can. The leads aren't huge and minutes can be lost on these stages so tomorrow will definitely be worth watching as the race is far from over just yet. The final climb is over 33 km and is long enough for places to change.
