The last mountain climb on today's Tour de France was cancelled as a huge hail storm hit just before the riders were going to start the climb. Race organizers cancelled the last climb as the riders were on the descent before the climb. Organisers said it was way too dangerous as ice was still on the road. This area is known for having skiing up until late August and this looked like a winter wonderland late in July.

Alaphilippe lost his yellow jersey on the climb up to the Col de l'Iseran and that is where the officials have taken the final times for the day. hail ruined any chances that Alaphilippe had but honestly he was more than a minute behind. Bernal was way out in front and who knows what would have played out on the last climb. We will never know as it was just too dangerous to even consider trying it. Credit must be given to the race organisers to make such a quick decision as you can't plan for extreme weather. It wasn't just the ice but the TV pictures have shown some land slides already so it was definitely unsafe.

The roads were covered in hail and ice and as it was melting it would have been treacherous. This Tour has had extreme heat and now ice and the weather had the final say. It is not all over for Alaphilippe but with one stage to go in the mountains and Bernal in the lead by around 40 seconds it seems like he is now fighting for the podium now.

Team Ineos now control the race and Bernal should win this tour now and Thoms has a great chance of coming second. Can Alaphilippe hang on to 2nd or third place now.
