🚴 Tour Down Under Stage 2 - Caleb Ewan surprises most and navigates a tricky mountainous course to win Stage 2!

Mitchelton-Scott showed real composure and trusted their young Australian, Caleb Ewan, to eventually win on a course not designed for pure-sprinters in the slightest, at the 2nd Stage of the Tour Down Under.

Everybody had thought that the home favourite, Caleb Ewan, would have won yesterday's sprint stage - so Ewan came into the race with something to prove, having been pipped to the post by Lotto-Soudal's André Greipel a day before.

Ewan filtered into Peter Sagan's splitstream, and poked his head around the Slovakian before racing to take the uphill sprint finish in front of fellow Mitchelton-Scott rider Daryl Impey, and Bora's Jay McCarthy.

Ewan has been called up to race for Mitchelton-Scott in the Tour de France this year, so it will be interesting to see how the 'Pocket Rocket' can match up against the likes of Sagan, Greipel and Cavendish on the big stage at a Grand Tour. A potential candidate for the green jersey? Definitely!

With the Stage victory, Ewan leapfrogs into first place in the GC, with past leader after Stage 1, Greipel, losing big time on today's stage. He now sits 7 minutes 27 seconds behind Ewan at 100th place in the GC after being jettisoned from the peloton and crossing the line in 104th place.
