Tom Dumoulin made it two golds in two elite time trials for the Netherlands after female compatriot Annemiek van Vleuten won the women's equivalent yesterday. Primoz Roglic and Chris Froome took Silver and Bronze respectively.
The penultimate rider to start (ahead of Tony Martin), Tom Dumoulin impressed hugely on the technical and exciting course featuring an unusual 10% wall at the finish.
Chris Froome finished just ahead of Roglic on the road but behind him on the clock, by just over 20 seconds. Tom Dumoulin then came through to record a smashing time of 44 minutes 41 seconds and relegate both Roglic and Froome to the lesser medals.
Other Sky riders such as Vasil Kiriyenka and Gianni Moscon also had a good showing with both riders featuring in the top 10 at the end of the day, and being in podium positions for most of the race.
Tom Dumoulin adds to his medal collection after winning the time trial in the Rio Olympics in 2016.
There had been major controversy leading up to this race after the regulatory body, the UCI, put in a rule change which allowed for riders to switch from time trial bikes to road bikes at the foot of the final climb. Many riders, including Chris Froome, decided completely against this and in other cases, many chose to start on their road bikes.
