Chris Froome took a commanding lead in La Vuelta on yesterday's stage, finishing 2nd behind Colombia's Miguel Angel Lopez.

Team Sky's Chris Froome finished second on the mountainous stage, coming in 14 seconds behind the stage winner Lopez. Italy's Vincenzo Nibali finished behind Froome, but ahead of ORICA - Scott man Esteban Chaves and moves up to second in the GC as a result.

Nibali accelerated on the final climb of the 187.5km long stage, but Froome managed to bridge the gap, bidding to become the first British winner of La Vuelta. Astana rider Lopez surged with 2km to go and Froome was content to allow him to take the stage victory.
