Chris Froome took a big leap to winning this year's tour after an impressive individual time-trial performance to beat Sunweb's Wilco Kelderman by 29 seconds.
Froome put in a commanding performance to take a second stage victory of this year's grand tour, winning stage 16's individual time trial and practically doubling his overall lead in the general classification.
There were some big losses for Esteban Chaves of ORICA - Scott over the 40.2km long time trial, dropping from 4th to 9th after conceding over 4 minutes to stage winner Froome on the day. Contador put in a vintage performance to move up into the top 5 , 4 minutes 58 seconds behind the Briton.
With only five stages remaining, it now seems that Froome has the red jersey in the bag - and it would either take a catastrophic error from the Team Sky man or a huge effort from Bahrain - Merida or Team Sunweb to put their men at the top.
