Chris Froome made ammends for his poor performance on Wednesday's stage by distancing closest rival Vincenzo Nibali on today's stage, won by Lotto Soudal man Sander Armée.

Froome and Team Sky had come under pressure on every climb of Stage 18, with attacks coming from Zakarin's Katusha & Contador's Trek - Segafredo multiple times. Fabio Aru managed to get away from the main group with around 40km remaining but wasn't able to strech the distance enough to catch the breakaway riders up the road.

Armée was able to distance birthday boy Alexey Lutsenko of Astana on the final climb, who was seeking his second stage victory of this year's tour.

A high tempo Team Sky lead by Gianni Moscon powered up the final climb, with Froome following Contadors wheel after another aggressive attack. By the line Froome and Contador had almost caught up to the tri-colour of Aru, and Froome had more importantly added another 21 seconds to his nearest rival Nibali.
