Matteo Trentin, attempting to steal the green sprinter's jersey off of La Vuelta winner Chris Froome, easily won the sprint finish on the last stage of La Vuelta 2017.
Chris Froome sealed the historic Vuelta-Tour double, winning his maiden Vuelta a España. The Brit is the first rider since 1978 to successfully manage to win both the Tour de France and the Vuelta a España.
Alessandro De Marchi and Rui Costa had attempted to take the stage victory today from a breakaway about 8km's from the finish, but as they found out they didn't have it in them. A heavily fortified Quick - Step lead-out train ensured Matteo Trentin had the best run in, and the Italian had no issues taking the stage.
Froome crossed the line in 13th position, meaning he retained the green sprinter's jersey (that was being worn by Vincenzo Nibali on behalf of him today). Froome, not only winning the red jersey, also won the white combined jersey on this year's tour. A very impressive feat!
