I love cycling. I don't want to look like this guy in the picture below, but I'm becoming this so called "hubbard". If I continue with my current lifestyle choices, I'll be riding around with my beer gut resting on the top of my bicycle frame, pedaling with knees splayed out.

Nothing against good ol' hubbards of course, they are making a great lifestyle choice. But I don't want to get to this physique first before turning things around.
Coming back to University for the last 4 years has meant returning to the 'student lifestyle' of my late teens and early twenties. You know, having not enough money or the time to pursue a regimented training regime and a strict, healthy diet, or to service your equipment. But... there's somehow always enough money to hang out at the pub with your peers.
What this has resulted in is constantly yo-yoing fitness levels through out the last 4 years in accordance to study load and holiday cycles of the academic year. There has been very little consistency - and I do take responsibility for that.
So here's where I'm at right now...
I'm way too shy to share a topless photo of myself online, so my tight cycling jersey hides some of my porky-ness quite well. But I'm quite round faced and there are definitely signs of an emerging beer gut on the side profile.
Cycling Diary - January 12 Mt Nebo
Yesterday, I completed my major ride in a long time with 2 good mates of mine. It was a hot mid summer climb up one of Brisbane's iconic cycling routes - Mt Nebo, about 58km return. Here's a Strava capture of my ride...
To my surprise, I wasn't as stuffed as I thought I would be. My mid-long distance cycling fitness is still there, which is good news. I'm aiming to do at least one long ride every week.
Here's a picture from taken from Jolly's lookout...

Keep up the riding, the kgs will shed off super quickly. Views out in that part of the world look really awesome. Is there much in the way of mountains and climbs that side of Aus?

I hope the kg's will shed quickly. I can only speak for my local surroundings around the South East corner of Queensland as I have not ridden much elsewhere. But yes, even around Brisbane some beautiful climbing routes are Mt Coot-Tha, Mt Glorious, Mt Mee, Mt Tamborine. I don't think we have any epic Tour/Giro style climbs around my area though.

At least you don't have to keep 4 bikes in a tiny dorm room like me!

Haha, yes. But I don't have enough bikes! It'll never be enough.

Yeah unfortunately, the N+1 rule always holds true with bikes....
Where N= the number of bikes you currently own
